We should definitely fight to keep him. Clichy is underrated by a lot of people, including Arsenal fans.

We haven't heard a peep out of him, unlike Nasri. He is being very respectful and I doubt its a money problem. I think Clichy might want to just move on with his career.
Either way, I think Wenger can convince him to stay for one more season at least

Baines is only better than Clichy in an offensive sense. Defensively though he's very suspect.

There hasn't been many developments on this, though I take no news as good news. I hope he resigns, but apparently he wants trophies and feels he has to leave to acheive that. Nothing new there, then.

We need to fight to keep him. He makes mistakes, but I think he's perfect for us. I feel eventually he will find his 07/08 form again.

Also, there aren't alot of good LB's left in the world, and if we were to lose him, it would be very hard to find a replacement. Gibbs is clearly not ready, and I think Baines would be a downgrade.

If he wants to leave the club, I don't think we should hold a grudge against him. He genuinely loves the club and has put in good service for about 8 years now, and always shown commitment and loyalty while never bad mouthing the club.

I'm sure Wenger can convince him that he's still an important member of our team and we are very close to ending the drought.

lol true.

I think most of the people who were calling for Clichy's head changed their minds when they saw Gibbs' performances at LB lol.

Stay, he is a true gunner. Has lots of heart and puts every ounce of effort he can in every game. He never gives up, so web he gets beat, he recovers really quickly.

Hey everyone from goal forums is still here! Fully sick. I bet u guys can guess who I am......

Anyways on topic, Clichy should definately stay. Let's be honest, there aren't too many LB's that are better than Clichy....

No Clichy should defnitely stay cause he is great for us. And if he does leave then the only replacement i could see is Baines. Gibbs is not good defensively but he is great when it comes to attacking.

Definitely needs to stay. Never injured, runs like a horse and is already adapted and very useful in our system. One of our top performers and deserves a nice, fat new deal.

How many other good LBs are in the market, anyways? Coentrao and he's off to Madrid. When it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Stay. I would go for him if he doesn't want to stay. But he's a very good left back and although I've been baffled recently at what he's put on the plate, I've seen him as the best left back in the Premier League in the past and it would be a safer bet to give him some space rather than punting on another player.

We really do need him to stay. Gibbs i've never been confident with, and unless we pull in a decent defensive minded LB, then we'll get exposed there for sure.

In a potentially unrelated topic, apparently Newcastle have a pretty decent LB in Jose Enrique. Thoughts?

Jose Enrique?
For starters, I think Liverpool are closing in on him. Secondly, he is nowhere near the quality of Clichy. I'd honestly much rather give Gibbs a good run than buy Jose Enrique

Clichy - Should he stay or should he Go Empty Re: Clichy - Should he stay or should he Go

Removing yet another experienced head isn't a luxury the squad has at the moment, especially one still in his prime physically. Despite his flaws he is one of the better options in his position and importantly replacements of equal potential or talent would be expensive, at least the equal of any transfer fee that Clichy might bring.

If the money could be used to invest in several positions it might be justified, however unless Gibbs is trusted fully and a bargain transfer in another position is spotted the squad won't grow from any potential move.

I also want to him to say..
I think for him its more of the trophy problem more than the money.. He is linked with Bayern and Inter..
*
No doubt he has been very loyal and a great player for us.. But i feel he has not grown to his maximum potential and lost something.. So i am not worried much about losing him..
But if he goes we must replace him with an experienced LB.. And not with Gibbs who is nowhere near him... scratch

Stay.

IMO Gibbs is not ready to take his place and it's not as we needed anymore pressure on our back-line.

Stay. No second thoughts about it. We'd rather spend on other parts of our team than spend on getting in Baines or something.

No reason to let him go, we don't have anyone to replace him, Gibbs maybe in 2 years.

Arsenal's most underrated player. A top quality left back, I just wish AW would play Theo in front of Clichy, then these "defensive claims" would be made redundant.

No-one presses the play like Clichy, formidable athlete hugely experienced and a world class player.
