Italy name 32 players for Euro 2012
http://www.football-italia.net/18774/italy-name-32-players-euro-2012
There are several surprise new faces in the 32-man long-list for Italy at Euro 2012, including Mattia Destro, Antonio Di Natale, Ezequiel Schelotto and Marco Verratti.
Coach Cesare Prandelli named his squad this evening, although the Juventus, Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain players won’t begin training until next week, as they still have official commitments at club level.
Novelties include Rubin Kazan defender Salvatore Bocchetti and Udinese veteran Di Natale, who have not played under Prandelli’s reign before.
The real surprises are in younger players who have not figured in the senior Italy squad, such as Siena striker Destro, Juventus man Emanuele Giaccherini, Atalanta winger Schelotto, 19-year-old Pescara creative midfielder Verratti and Bologna midfielder Alessandro Diamanti.
Giorgio Chiellini’s presence depends on tests, as he limped off during today’s 3-1 win over Atalanta with a suspected thigh strain.
The list will be cut down to the final 23 for the tournament in Poland and Ukraine on May 29.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that Gigi Riva will not be travelling with the Italy squad for this competition due to ill health.
Goalkeepers:Buffon (Juventus), De Sanctis (Napoli), Sirigu (Paris St. Germain), Viviano (Palermo);
Defenders:Abate (Milan), Astori (Cagliari), Balzaretti (Palermo), Barzagli (Juventus), Bocchetti (Rubin Kazan), Bonucci (Juventus), Chiellini (Juventus), Criscito (Zenit San Pietroburgo), Maggio (Napoli), Ogbonna (Torino), Ranocchia (Inter);
Midfielders:Cigarini (Atalanta), De Rossi (Roma), Diamanti (Bologna), Giaccherini (Juventus), Marchisio (Juventus), Montolivo (Fiorentina), Thiago Motta (Paris St. Germain), Nocerino (Milan), Pirlo (Juventus),Schelotto (Atalanta), Verratti (Pescara);
Forwards:Balotelli (Manchester City), Borini (Roma), Cassano (Milan), Destro (Siena), Di Natale (Udinese), Giovinco (Parma)

That's not too surprising. I'm not a huge PDC fan, but even if you are a PDC fan, you have to remember that he has performed well under Conte's tactics. PDC's style may not suit Prandelli.

ok ok, great attack. but wtf to some of these call ups? I've highlighted them in red, but will not highlight Verratti cuz I don't watch serie b. No Santon, but instead we see Ranocchia? he hasn't played in forever and when he has he has done poorly. At least there's no Cassani. Surprised to see no Poli tbh yet we have these other guys. Oh and Pepe > Giaccherini

I would give soooooo much for Juve to sign either Borini or Destro. Absolute fantastic young strikers with so much potential.. Juve need an italian descent striker.. Borini can join Roma for 7 million € if they opt to sign him from Parma and Destro will probably cost 10 million € but damn. Id love to have one of those guys in Juve.. Good statistics for 2011/2012 for both of them as well. Great Italy squad, this is a new generation!!

have to agree with you...Pepe & Santon deserved to be called up...
I'd also put Miccoli in the forward line...
The man is a great goal scorer + brilliant vision!
How every...I think Giaccherini deserves this & am not trying to bias but he has moments of brilliance that can decide a game...

Giac is going to surprise people, mark my words.
De Ceglie got injured, and knowing his past that makes him a liability to the team. I think had he not been injured he would have deserved the call up, but now idk its tough
