How does messi Rate among Argentina all times great?
I think he is just behind Maradona. No other Argentine player has been as succesful internationally as he has, Maybe if you include Di stefano he'd rate third.

I mean he is the player that most people will associate with argentina's football when most have retired. He'll be after Diego our next national football icon.

What makes you put Di stefano before Maradona?

Batistuta is important and so is kempes. Mostly because of they gained with the national team, but I beleive Messi's international relevance is greater.

In order of importance to Argentina, not on abilities or club form:
1 Maradona
2 Kempes
3 Di Stefano
4 Bati-gol
5 Javier Zanetti
5 Veron
6 Messi (maybe)
In my mind he still has a lot to prove for the ARG NT before he is considered a legend to them. At Barcelona he is probably already one of the best players ever to play for the club.

From that point of view Di stefano should not be there. He accomplished very little national team wise and also played for colombia and Spain.

hahaha you figured me out, its only because he is a Real Madrid player, that I put him in that list. Yes I do concede, Alfredo is a bit of a traitor, but still an amazing player. My point remains that Messi still has a far way to go.

I don't consider him a traitor. From what i understand at a point he was forbiden to play for the national team due to political issues.

Tbh, the most surprising thing is that you rank Gago so highly (98#).

Just below Gutierrez imo, he can pass him if he scores 50 next season.

I like Batigol and Maradona more. Maradona was a s uper creative one man army. Batigol was my favourite striker, very powerful shots, a joy to watch
Messi is too lightweight for Batigol version and not creative enough for Maradona version

Re: How does messi Rate among Argentina all times great?
imo, the second most talented player to come out of Argentina ever, second to Maradona only, but as far as legendary status goes.
1. Maradona
2. Di Stefano
3. Kempes
4. Messi
5. Riquelme
6. Batistuta
7. Zanetti
For me he just pips Batistuta because of his club success and ridiculous goalscoring/assisting/dribbling record and other factors as well, although he has not been necessarily as good for the NT.

Re: How does messi Rate among Argentina all times great?
He'd be historic for his Barca things, but be totally a "boludo" in Argentina due to the lack of NT silverware.
Somewhere behind the great Gabriel Milito and Martin Demichelis.
