What Anti-Virus Programme Should I Buy Now?
My Norton software expired today and, before renewing it, i thought i'd the the legacy's opinion on what protection is ideal, since i know there are some technical boffins on here who have much more experience with different software than i do
Norton 360 is the obvious choice, but i've heard that Kaspersky, as an anti-virus solution, is miles better than anything Norton has, but at the cost of huge memory consumption
Opinion?

I've always used Kaspersky and it's pretty awesome(simple to use, great protection), I don't think it uses a lot of resources either. At least the older versions used less than Norton, I haven't used Kaspersky 12 though.

Re: What Anti-Virus Programme Should I Buy Now?
this has been one of my problems too. norton for just a year of subscription cost me close to about 8000 yen equilvant to about 100 dollars. not happy
what r u going preferring... norton, mcafee. like any cheaper but very good antivirus software available??
i also ran out of time just now so just for basic safety im using free AVG which i feel it aint safe at all.

I've done a bit of snooping around and Kaspersky seems to be the people's choice for best anti-virus software.JespSwe wrote:what r u going preferring... norton, mcafee. like any cheaper but very good antivirus software available??
$100 for Norton? Is that the basic version, or are we talking about the full shebang Norton 360?

But you rally don't need to buy it if you don't want to.It's available.
K9 Web protection is a useful in browser tool as well.

Trust me, NOD32 is garbage. i had it as my Anti-Virus for a year but noticed my system is not working well, i removed it and installed Avast! Anti-Virus. guess what happened ? there was tons of virus in my system.

Yep, NOD32/Smart Security is pretty good, but I dunno what happened, probably because I was installing so many beta versions and things, but when version 5 came it, it kept crashing my computer, so I just uninstalled it .__.
I'll reinstall it at the next iteration, but at the moment, NO AV.
Honestly, if you're careful, you won't need one.

Microsoft security essentials seems to be the go to anti-virus these days.
I wouldn't pay for anti-virus though. Just be smart while you're on the internet and you won't encounter any viruses.

MS Security essentials + Comodo should be sufficient.
I've never had any problems.

The most dangerous subject sits in front of the desktop
No antivirus could defend against it
I do like senor penguin. Comodo internet security (free) + microsoft own stuff. If you're too eager to visit xxx websites (
), create a guest account whitout administrator rights. Use admin account to install sutff only and the guest account for everything else

sorry .. .yeah its norton 360 full shebang.
but still man for a year of subscription gotta pay 100 dollars equivalent... and thast every year... its ok because i tend to forget it, but most annoying thing is that u kinda get blooody reminder ... 60 days left ... and those countdown notification to make subscriber pised off...

Re: What Anti-Virus Programme Should I Buy Now?
u guys are right best way to stay safe is to surf net safe, sometimes though , like u guys i have to find the live stream feed from websites, sopcast and all is ok, but u know some are direct link feeds, and those websites which hosts the video, they absolutely suck with ads, and kind of plugin notifications, popups ... thats what worries me because sometimes it prompts to install something ur not fully aware of, or accidentallly u do something and something malicious is installed.
thats why now its become a necessity to atleast keep pc at basic safety at minimum
atleast atm as soon as i m done with the net i clear the history/cookies and all. atleast once a week... have to be done...
btw thanks guys for recommendation. im looking for other cheap alternatives atm, if not then im gonna use free ones.. like avast or AVG is doing fine atm..

yea norton sucks not because of software its awesome, but symantec raised money for sure. couple of years ago it was reasonable... around 60 dollars for a year of subscription. and the most earliest versions like around 2003,2004 ,, hell we didnt even need to subscribe.. once u buy software, done.... full symantic live updates.. it was all good. actually back then
back then the competition was between symantec and mcafee. people said mcafee was the best but symantec gave great services on cheap price. now they suck!! raising money every year. i wont be surprised if they raise the price to more than 100 dollars ... well equilvant of... in japan...

Re: What Anti-Virus Programme Should I Buy Now?
Use a free one like MSE or Avast. They are free and two of the best
AVG is shit I rather take a virus than install that crap on my PC. Wait till you get a infection. It deletes your system files and at reboot your OS is gone. Remove it before you lose your data
