Yeah. Max Eberl is in an interview on TV atm, and he has a broad grin on the face when asked about the possibility of Yann Sommer following Marc-André ter Stegen, albeit he refuses to say anything definite. ^^

Sky claims that things are practically fixed, Yann Sommer gets a 4 year contract and he costs around 10 mio Euros transfer fee. (Actually the transfer fee varies between media from 6 mio Euros up to 10 mio Euros.)

So - with Roman Bürki signing up for SC Freiburg, that means that the 4 top GKs of Switzerland now all play in the Bundesliga. After Diego Benaglio in Wolfsburg and Marwin Hitz in Augsburg, Yann Sommer got the Nr.1 job in Mönchengladbach and now Roman Bürki will replace Oliver Baumann in Freiburg. Not bad for a country like Switzerland!

This thread definitely merits an update after Diego Benaglio's retirement from international football.

So here are the three current goalies of the Swiss Nati:

Yann Sommer has top stats in most of the GK relevant areas in the Bundesliga (according to the BL database as quoted by bild.de) so far:

Save percentages:

Manuel Neuer (Bayern) - 87,50%
Yann Sommer (Gladbach) - 87,10 %
Loris Karius (Mainz) - 82,86 %
Timo Horn (Köln) 82,86 %
Kevin Trapp (Frankfurt) - 77,42 %
Roman Bürki (Freiburg) - 72,97 %
Marwin Hitz (Augsburg) - 72,73 %
Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover) - 72,41 %
Oliver Baumann (Freiburg) - 70,00 %
Ralf Fährmann (Schalke) - 68,42 %
Diego Benaglio (Wolfsburg) - 66,67 %
Bernd Leno (Leverkusen) - 65,63 %
Roman Weidenfeller (Dortmund) - 64,29 %
(Swiss goalies in bold)

Then he supposedly has the highest number of caught crosses with 17 - even more than Manuel Neuer (unfortunately the article doesn't give Neuers exact number there - gotta check if I can find it - the stats at bundesliga.com differ completely and give "caught crosses" at 11 for Sommer and 3 for Neuer, but somehow the number for Neuer sounds pretty unrealistic). Too bad that the Bundesliga DB is fully commercial and one needs to pay them hefty fees for the exhaustive stats.

Another stat I find surprising is that Sommer supposedly catches 60% of the balls aimed at him, while Neuer only catches about 50%.

Yann Sommer won the Swiss Golden Player Awards of the Season 2013/14 in the category "Goalkeeper". cheers

The Swiss Award is better organized than the Ballon d'Or as they actually have the different categories GK, Defender, Midfieler and Forward. :coffee:

Squee! Guess what - Yann Sommer is currently the best goalkeeper in Europe's top 5 leagues save-percentage-wise with 82.61%, even before Manuel Neuer (whose record was ruined by Wolfsburg on Friday) at 81.82%.

Marwin Hitz just managed to score the 2:2 equalizer in the match Augsburg vs Leverkusen from open play in injury time. It's only the third goal ever scored from open play by a goalkeeper in the Bundesliga after Jens Lehmann in 1997 and Frank Rost in 2002.

Kicker.de published their Goalie ranking for the Rückrunde 2014/15:
Swiss Goalkeeper Appreciation Thread - Page 4 Kicker10

Very good result for the Swiss goalies in the Bundesliga again, although I would have put Yann Sommer at number one ahead of Manuel Neuer and Bernd Leno, if you look at his stats.

After all, sportingintelligence.com, who only go for statistical data, also consider Yann Sommer as number 1, even in all of Europe:

Roman Bürki also achieved a very good result. Dortmund can count themselves lucky that they finally have a modern goalkeeper, too.

Torwart.de (a German website dedicated to goalkeepers and goalkeeping) chose Yann Sommer as best Bundesliga goalkeeper of 2014/15:  cheers

Runner-up of their vote was Roman Bürki.

Thomas Tuchel decided that Roman Bürki will be Dortmunds Nr.1 goalie in the Bundesliga. Bürki thus displaced Roman Weidenfeller as starter.
