Ramos is a blockhead...  you guys only saw him at the end.  One of the big reasons we were so far behind in La Liga was that he was atrocious on defense for the first half of the season (hence the Man U rumors because he was on the verge of being dropped).

Remembering a CB for his goals rather than his defense is not a good thing.

Don't think it's a coincidence Ramos and Pepe look much better with Casemiro. Let's be honest, when's the last time we seriously had a proper DM like Casemiro? Ramos and Pepe are all out lunge in defenders. Having Casemiro helps immensely

This. He's not a shit defender though. Just plain bad. Consistency is key as a defender and Ramos makes 1-3 crucial mistakes every game.

I can't believe he was voted Man of the Match His most memorable contribution was to even out the disadvantage he gave his team by conceding a penalty. For me, Carvajal was MOTM before he even scored the winning goal. He completely shut down his side defensively, and hardly put a foot wrong in attack. Not to mention, that he never looked tired.

This surprises no one. The Ramos bandwagon is so strong and he's never held responsible for anything he does. The guy is disgracefully reckless, but no consequences

The "no consequences" part should be he personally doesn't face any consequences with regards to his reputation. Our scoreline, Navas' clean sheet and my health does though.

there's a tendency for fans to elevate a defensive players abilities when he tends to mask the issues he has on defense with offensive plays.  a defensive minded player who's supposed to tackle/mop up the dirty job, but cos they can execute a backheel pass, dribble, score acrobatic goals, score "like a striker", we tag them the best at their roles.

ramos is a clown, hard for me to rate a cb that accrues that many reds (a lot of his reds have come from second yellows, which is extremely irresponsible) high on the totem pole. i wasn't ecstatic about his goal today, the "super" and world club cups mean little to me. his ucl goals, i very much appreciated....athletic, with a big heart, but a reckless defender and a blockhead  , that he seems to always be in the running for fifpro defensive laurels says a lot about defense.

He's not a shit defender per se, he just has shitty positioning... which is a key defender attribute, but he makes up for it in aggression and class goalkeeping.

Not sure the goals make up for it, but he's definitely a huge aerial threat. Me being a fan of players who do their role first, then make up for it in other areas... Sure. I rate him. But he's not a GOAT defender. A great player though, just through sheer presence. That's also very important in a defender, but his positioning just leaves me awestruck at times. He gifts goals waaay too often. At a smaller club he'd be having a very tough time indeed.

Very good player and a true leader of men. It's just that defensively speaking he isn't the best. Though, he is in my top 20.

Can be annoying sometimes. The kind of guy that throws elbows, makes ugly tackles and gets away with them.

I would put him in my 'Best 23 players' squad because he is unconventional.

No doubt that his leadership and clutch goals are top notch. As a center back though... too many mistakes. He is basically the best version of David Luiz, i.e. outstanding game outside of defense but too many rash decisions in his position.

Still would play this guy in front of the back four. He could be the DM the likes to go forward and still have good recovery when defending. Only as long RM have Modric and Isco/Kroos helping him.
