David Silva's "Improved" Contract
Is it really necessary? Does he really need that extra 50k for doing virtually nothing? I can understand offering him a more solid contract, but did they really have to increase his already plump wages too? He was making more than most players in the league anyway, now he'll be on par with Toure and Rooney in regards to bringing in the dough
Quite honestly, it brings my piss to a boil. Discuss

He is Man City's best player and most important too.So by City's 'high paying' standards i think he deserves it.

Re: David Silva's "Improved" Contract
more reason why theyll fail FFP, tbh i cant see city making any effort at all to meet the regulations, of course theyll sneak in by showing "significant progress towards lowering losses" which will be easy after they recoreded a world record loss last year
a guess in some ways its a case of the pot calling th ehettle black that comming from a chelsea fan, but at lease we are taking visable steps towards meeting the expectations

For doing nothing?
He has been on of their best players for 2 seasons, but they have too big wages, i agree. Noneless Silva is a great player.

Best player in the team, so why not?
Reward his great play if you can afford it.
If guys who arent as good as him are getting as much or more money, then it is the right thing to do.
I bet Nasri, along with Yayaand probably a few others were getting more then him.

Re: David Silva's "Improved" Contract
Why are people making à big deal out of This? Messi earns the most at Barca, Ronaldo at Real. Silva has been by far City's best player for a while now and even if he doesnt get credit From the international press and people who dont put him in their year XI cause his name is not Messi, Iniesta, Xavi the board of City knows damn well that This kid is the best midfielder out there right now. Kompany, Touré but most of all Silva wil bring City to the international top. The City board is full of throwing money, but defentially not blind.

Re: David Silva's "Improved" Contract
Silva really deserves much more respect over here at goallegacy. It's à bloody Shame you have to be with Barca or Real to be seen as good like Xavi, Iniesta or Xabi and Ozil.

Re: David Silva's "Improved" Contract
Oh dear, the most funniest thread on this site, you've made day.
David Silva is Manchester City's best player, and has been this season, nothing's changed apart from his confidence which has been one of the main reasons he's tearing the league apart. He has created numerous goalscoring chances for his team-mates and, on top of that, has the most assists in the league. Stats aside, the vision, awareness, technique, movement and control is relatively unmatched by any other player in the Premier League, at the moment. Hands down, as a Manchester United fan, he's the best player in the league, by far. Of course Kompany and Hart are vital, however, the former has not been as good as last season, which isn't to say he's been mediocre, and the latter is overrated (he gifts the opposition on the ball instead of palming it away).

Sorry, but in what way is he "tearing the league apart"?

Apparently he's bringing a technical level to the PL that has been missing for a long time.
Oh, and his team is top.
Not part of the Silva hype, but I do like him.

Agreed with all, he deserves it, and Man C dont want other clubs making him think he can leave, so this pay rise is also to make him happy

Re: David Silva's "Improved" Contract
Got a few problems with the things being said here.
"Has has been City's best player by far " ---> Firstly, many would argue that Kompany is City's best player, not Silva, and even if it is Silva, it's not "by far". It's pretty tight between the two, but if anything, Kompany is more important to the team than Silva is.
"He has been City's best player for 2 seasons now" ----> He was their best player last season? I know that Tevez isn't playing for them anymore, but I'm pretty sure he was last season. I could be wrong though, so you need to go check that out. (If the sarcasm wasn't obvious in that last sentence, then you might want to go check out your brain at the doctor's as well).
"Ordinary Player" ---> Silva is not ordinary, he is quite talented but a few months of great form don't make him the best player in the league. By that logic, Nasri was one of the best players in the league last season...which is just rubbish. He is great, and I don't believe that his form isn't going to carry on, but until then, I won't be jumping the gun like everyone is doing. Sorry for not being a cheerleader.
Finally, I have to agree with Lex. I understand that by "City standards", the pay-raise is justified and all...but looking at the bigger picture, is this really what we want football to be like? Average/Above-average players (A la Milner and Barry, for example) getting paid huge loads of money and so the really talented ones, such as Silva, need to be paid even more than that? I'm sorry, but the wages in football right now are already insane, and with the way things are going, it doesn't look like they're going to get any lower. I mean, Arsenal's wage-structure is apparently a problem because other clubs are offering heaps more than us, but I don't see how players deserve more than 100k per week. This is a crazy amount of money that we're talking about here, and I really don't want to see the natural trend be for players to demand 300k or something.
And unless Silva was somehow unsettled by the fact that some other players earn more than him, I see absolutely no reason to give him an extra 50k a week.
