Get Italians as your CB's, French DM's. Problem solved.
What you really need is Defenders with a lot of Stamina, who are also not slow, and are also solid. Not easy. You'd have to make them IMO. Also, you'll need 1 DM's who is capable of Recovering the ball but who can also Dribble and Distribute the ball (Banega) and one who's purpose is to Destroy the opponents play but also who projection towards the opponents goal (someone like Pepe or De Rossi) . Fullbacks would be nice too but I prefer those SB's like Zanetti who can Defend as well as Attack. The Attacking 4 are also gonna need Stamina no matter how you put them.

Play 4-5-1 with 2 holding CM's. Over run the midfield and have a close to 7 foot tall striker to keep holding up the ball and winning air balls.

If you have good wingers who can defend as good as they can attack and you close on your sides and force barca to attack from the center only then you re 1 step ahead of them.
4 - 4 - 2 is not parking the bus, its the most basic formation of all of them, a shape shifting formation.
I ve already discussed this before in the madrid section and wasted like 30 mins of my time typing and arguing with people who lack tactical awareness so if you want the recipe to beat barca refer to my post on 4 - 4 - 2(not the thread with the same title which doesnt discuss the details but another thread which i think falls under the title Post Classico Analysis or something)
They will overun you in the center. Leaving Barce with a 3 vs 2 in the middle isn't a very good idea. I think a 4-1-4-1 would stand a better chance than a 4-4-2 tbh.

we had arguably the best defences in the world at that time when we beat them/progressed. we only parked the bus because we had to (had a man sent off) and we just about scraped through

+respect.
Also, you'll be facing Xavi not only on the field, but moreso the wrath of Xavi off the field with the media.

Milan to be the first team under Guardiola Barcelona to get 0-0 in both legs and win the tie on penalties?

Actually every single team i've seen Barca play against in this CL group stage waited to soak pressure and play the counter, Barca just steamrolled them.
It's just the fact nobody has planned a style for more than a decade like they have, and nobody can stand a chance (except Madrid).
Barca "steamrolled" AC Milan? LOL They were lucky not to lose. It took and own goal and a suspect penalty to get a 2-3 wi

Nah.
Bigger Barca pitch, better condition and hopefully we play with some width with no Keita.
I am pretty confident we will score.

Pressing is the way, but you cant press for long if you only have the ball 40% of the time.
Press, get a goal, then park the bus. Easier said then done of course.
I disagree, you should press hard and get a goal, then not park the bus, simply play on the counter attack, don't press at allexcept when Xavi or Iniesta get the ball, mainly to disturb their flow.
Missed this old post.
Anyway, to play effectively on the counter against us, your going to need to leave 3 players up the pitch. No teams wants to leave 3 players up the pitch when they winning against a team like Barcelona.

Why dont all teams park the bus against Barca? Because not all have the ability to do so...

U got got a point, although it ight used to be just control XAviesta and it could be done, nowadays we are more well rounded and its much more than just controlling the 2 and ur fine.
Not sure about 3 up front for counters, its not realistic to defend vs us with just 7, that would mean back 4 and 3 midfielders? Quality over quality, Ive seen some teams trouble us with 1 lone striker, they jut need to link and pass quick and accurate when they counter...
