The Barca-nization of Serie A
Berlusconi has come out and said he wants Milan to play like Barca, Roma are actively trying to emulate them, Juventus not so longed ago proclaimed that they wanted to play like Barca as well, and Inter is often rumored to be after Pep and Bielsa, both coaches that wouldn't fit their players but would fit the criteria of playing like Barca. I think it's not just the success they're after, but also the success of playing football well. It's doubtful any of these teams can really achieve what Barca has, and comparisons are hateful by definition, but it does seem that at least 3 of Italy's top 4 clubs wished they were a bit more like Barca.

Some top Premier League teams are also trying to modernize themselves, good example being Chelsea.

Re: The Barca-nization of Serie A
I believe some journalist also mentioned United are looking for more technical players that could play like Barca to compete with them, as well. Sneijder being a prime example.

Re: The Barca-nization of Serie A
I've not much time, so all I'll say is that talk is cheap and that's essentially my view on this issue for the time being.
Even in the future though I would expect that tactically such talk would remain an exaggeration, even if the idea of Serie A is restricted to those in European competitions. More pro-active football shouldn't necessarily be interpreted as a reflection of Barcelona's philosophy, though certainly as an inspiration to find our own solutions I'd consider them important and hopefully this propogates itself with a focus upon youth systems.

Everyone wants to be like Barca, but people need to want to be better than Barca.

Nobody's willing to sacrifice the couple years of not winning a title or risk being bumped from CL spots.

You don't need to change your playing style immediately, you could and should do it gradually.

The playing style is effective, but it's attractiveness is over-rated imo.
The effectiveness of their style may be over-rated too considering that they have the best players (aside from maybe Madrid).

barca perfected their style.... for everyone to play like barca will mean they will never beat barca.... the game might become more technical, but thats hardly "copying barca" imo

Modernise themselves? What? The foundation of barcelonas principles have been around for over 20 years. Tactically they aren't really doing anthing that revolutionary tbh. Explain this modern term, I'm curious.

Re: The Barca-nization of Serie A
juve's possesion statistics mirror barca this year. i believe xavi had something like 110 passes . vidal matched that a few weeks ago whilst Pirlo is averaging 90 odd passes a game. our game is very much driven by possesion football much like barca's

Re: The Barca-nization of Serie A
Conte has done what should be done IMHO, take inspiration, but not try to mimic Barca meticulously. We play a derivative that borrows some idea's and adds others, unsurprisingly his time under Lippi also had a massive influence on him and it's legacy is also pronounced in the way he coaches.
High pressing and emphasis on possession, short passes...The other thing is we've restructured the entire youth system to play in the Ajax/Barca model where there is a degree of co-ordination between all levels, where by the coaches of the younger sides are setting their teams up in the same mould as the first team so they produce more relevant players for Conte's philosophy.
I wouldn't say we are trying to play like 'Barca' though, Tiki-Taka, the general worship/coveting of the ball and all that jazz

Re: The Barca-nization of Serie A
We are not trying to emulate Barca. That 's a myth.
We are certainly using their style and philosophy as a platform for our project, but our endgame is not to be the Italian version of Barca. We will still play our games the way Roma have always played their matches.
If anything, Barca is merely an inspiration.

To be honest I got that impression the other night.
Roma has always played a passing style game for as long as I can remember and I happen to know it was no different before my time.
Roma are still playing distinctively like Roma from what I can see
In saying that i'm sure Enrique brings new ideas to the training ground which we will see come to fruition further down the line and with the inclusion of Viviani the other night that Barca-esque faith in youth was certainly present.

Re: The Barca-nization of Serie A
Delusional Juve fanboys hahaha ^^ Soon you kids will start thinking Europe wants to emulate Juventus
I've enjoyed alot of footballgames in Serie A (non Inter lol) were both teams actually try something.. But the league still has a LOOOOOONNNGGGG way to go.. It's more then 10 years now they are lagging behind.

I remember when the forum started bitching about how arrogant Xavi was when he said that Barca were the reference in world football even though Inter won the CL, but reading this thread it looks like he was right!

Im glad I dont support seria a clubs (Apart maybe being a closer Ac Milan fan), but there are far more attractive playing styles than just tiki taka which for me quite frankly is a borefest.
