Puyol set to miss Euro 2012 as Spain star is sidelined with knee injury

Spain have been dealt a blow in their bid to retain their title as European champions with the news that Carles Puyol is poised to miss this summer's tournament.

Puyol requires knee surgery and will be out for six weeks.

'After tests were conducted it was decided the player would have arthroscopic surgery next Saturday, May 12,' his club Barcelona said in a statement.

'The estimated time he will be out of action is around six weeks.'

Spain's first game of Euro 2012 is against Italy on June 10.

Just to be clear though, Pique is one of my favorite defenders and he is the definite starter.....Ramos should be a definite starter now.

Nope. It will be Arbeloa - Piqué - Ramos - Alba with Iraola - Javi Martínez and Albiol as a backup defenders. 7 defenders will be in the squad.
