I personally don't think the Mavs will get back to the Finals this year, at least with their current roster. Who plays C? Haywood? Losing Chandler is going to hurt more than they think. Barea too, he drove and dished at will against LA, gave them all sorts of problems. Right now LA matches up pretty good with them IMO. Bynum would have a field day on Haywood.

Not to mention they signed Wince Carter, and he's already hurt, that guy will kill a team so fast, I'd rather have his cousin T-Pain. At least he tries, Vince is just content to chuck up ridiculous 3's five feet beyond the arc.

I finally saw the full segment of Joe Budden on First Take today. Agreed with him completely on Tebow. It's smoke & mirrors, he's playing good football in the 4th quarter, but defenses also sag off the line of scrimmage because they have a lead. They start playing prevent defense(aka don't let us get beat deep) so Tebows got plenty of room to make plays underneath, short runs, short passes etc. How come no one talks about Matt Prater, who's hit ridiculous kicks to actually win, including a damn near 60 yarder last game.

Also no one talks about John Skelton for the Cardinals, who's winning games too and he's done it against the Cowboys and San Fran, 2 really solid teams. The Broncos have a better defense and run game than Arizona too, which is keeping them in every single game yet he gets no mentions or credit while Tebows the herald.

That said, if Tebow sons Brady and the Pats this week, I'll give him enormous props.

Yeah that's how I interpreted it. ESPN all day will talk about him. But just comparing Skelton and Tebow, Tebows overall team is better, which means Skelton is going to have to do more to keep his team in the game. But going back to basketball, I have no idea what's going on with Jeff Green for the Celtics. Dude just signed a 9m dollar deal(yes, 9m for a bench player ) and now he can't play and no one has any idea why. A lot are speculating it could be a heart issue(which is scary considering the C's history with that; Bias/Lewis), but I would think if it was a heart issue they wouldn't let him anywhere near the court. Really don't know what is going on with him.

And I just saw your Rockets signed Jeff Adrien(former UConn player), now the Rockets have the '09 UConn frontcourt . Adrien can be a similar player to Chuck Hayes imo. Undersized, great rebounder who uses his physical strength to grab rebounds, decent midranger. Thabeet though, I'm not sure on, I think the Rockets should give him 1 more year to see if he can do anything. He never really got a chance in Memphis. If the Rockets waived him though, I would definitely take Thabeet on the Celtics for his defensive presence alone.

But yeah of course, he should be able to do what JJ could but also not be a defensive liability.

He replaced JJ and Vince replaces Butler.

Odom replaced Chandler which means being smaller and less rim protection, but adds greater versitility. They could role with line ups of Dirk, Odom, Marion, Kidd and Terry and be very dangerous because all 5 guys can score and none of them need to dominate the ball to do it...its a big danger. Basically they have no offensive liabilities now other than Haywood who actually isnt that bad with the ball.

I think their sucess is dependant on how well Haywood protects the rim and plays pick and roll D. If he can do those things reasonably well, they will still be a big threat imo.

I dont know Jeff Adrien, will have to wait and see. But sounds like a good pick up...but tbh im so frustrated with having basically 11 role players I cant get too excited.

Agree about Thabeet..he has no I.Q whatsoever but we literally have nobody in the middle who cant protect the middle and at least rebound his space. It would be different if we have someone, but we literally have nothing.

I think teams generally underestimate the important of rim protection.

Bynum and Gasol(if he's back to normal) will have a field day in the post against Nowitski/Odom.

I'm glad to see that Barea's gone......that midget freak torched us last year...I don't know what to expect from Ruddy......he's Tony Parker like on the run but completely lacks the passing ability and court vision to be efficent.

Carter will do more harm than good, he's a choker, he's greedy and he's long past it.

Bionic proved last year that he's perhaps the best and most versatile SF defender in the leauge.......I don't know what else to say about him.......hopefully his woefully bad shots and floaters stop going in that's the most I can hope for.

Well Dirk did a decent job with Gasol last year when matched up, Gasols softness at least makes it an acceptable match.

Haywood is a better 1 v 1 defender than Chandler, so thats a plus. I think the only thing that they can miss from Tyson was his mobilty and with that ability on pick and rolls aswell as rim protection. But straight up man to man 1 on 1 defence they dont lose much imo.

Dont agree about Csrter. Its not like they are asking him to be the go to guy in any sense, its still Dirk taking all the big shots and even Terry and Kidd before Vince. All Vince has to do is be a role player, come in, make some shots, make some players. If he sucks, then he doesnt play. They wont be relying on him at all. He could play 0 minutes (because he is basically taking Butlers place and he didnt play in the playoffs) and the Mavs are still great.

Pau was not Pau last year.Or at least I hope not.

I've watched Pau play excellent games against KG and Howard and Perkins........so watching him get locked out by Dirk in 4 sraight games remains a mystery to me.I hope he can resolve those issues.I thought Gasol was past being soft until last year TBH.

They lost their defensive leader, who according to every coach and analyst was their game changer.....so I think it will have a profound effect on their defence.Offensively they will get better.
