Until the last Match day where we overtake them and Malaga, sadly Pathetico finish 3rd

Re: Andre Villas-Boas /...
Malagas priority are wingers.... Elisue is ok but the guy is a LB for crying out loud and not winger
they also need a CF, i am sure Pelle will spend smartly this summer

Re: Andre Villas-Boas /...
Man...this guy really is a miracle worker.
Zenit just lost to the second team of Cyprus league in CL. With Hulk,Garay, all their stars playing
at least Spalletti used to only flop at group stage, this goon won't even get Zenit to the groups

Uhh, the dude won all our preseason friendlies, it's no indication of how he will do in the league.

I don't expect one to follow the dreary Russian league yet I do expect that one would follow Andre Villas Boas fantastic record in all his final 9 games of the season since taking over Spaletti, rather than judging his first pre-season exhibition which are by default, meaningless.

Re: Andre Villas-Boas /...
Ehm...
This was not a pre-season game. This was CHAMPIONS LEAGUE qualifier.
30 Million Euros at stake....

Is AVB still playing a high line? If so why did he get Garay?

Re: Andre Villas-Boas /...
Too much
Too soon.
He should have stayed at Porto and Stacked trophies for 10-15 years before moving elsewhere. That way he'd be known as a winner before being thrown to the wolves.

Re: Andre Villas-Boas /...
Genuine apologies for having the notion that it was a friendly as thank you to Sepi for correcting me.
Polish teams are underestimated yet Villas Boas has little excuse here especially given that he has had over 9 games to settle and that the high stakes should have translated to an at least qualification.
Not bothered as Limassol always were an entertaining team in the Europa League and that Zenit are a disgraceful team as a whole.

Re: Andre Villas-Boas /...
He won at Porto because he had Falcao, Hames, Hulk, Moutinho, and a host of other very talented players in an absolutely garbage Portuguese league where even Benfica was struggling that season and Sporting were in their hibernation stage still.
I could've done the treble in Portugal with that team. Benfica finished more than 20 points below them. They went undefeated all season if I remember correctly.
In the Europa win they played Braga, terrible Villarreal, CSKA, and Spartak. And their group consisted of CSKA SOfia, Rapid Wien, and Besiktas
Biggest fraud ever.

Re: Andre Villas-Boas /...
AVB's story really is a cautionary tale, there is a lesson to be learned here for everyone.
He followed the call of money right away, after merely one professional year, before actually maturing as a coach and developing a real sense of his job. He thought he could manage the big boys without apparently having the experience, authority and skillset needed.
Now, at *bleep* 36, he's already on his third extremely well paid job, but flopping, failing, and getting fired at each one of them.
It can only go downhill for him now, until he finds some equilibrium of what he can do and where he does it.
The lesson here is, of course, that when you happen to have some kind of short term momentum, do not hesitate to cash in on the hype as fast and forcefully as you can.
Because who knows how the situation would have been had he stayed at Porto and followed his first eye-catching season with a couple of mediocre ones that wouldn't have been so noteworthy, plateauing at his real level.
He might have just remained some B-level manager somewhere and might never have gotten the chance to make millions and millions of € like that again, and he wouldn't have entered the league of 'big name' managers, where simply by virtue of being in there you apparently can bag a few lucrative contracts even while in the process of going down and being found out.
The guy isn't 40, but already set for life. That's how you do it.
