Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Perhaps our CM purchases make sense all of a sudden.
In my opinion, I don't think we will see the same Gerrard again in terms of fitness. That groin injury has been a bother for a while now. Unless it is permanently sorted, I expect things to change.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
@Sepi
we will see.I would still say he will be fit for October give or takea couple of weeks. And i dont think anything suspicious in that statement tbh.I know for a fact u do sometimes get infectious during rehabilitation from injury though admittedly my knowledge about sportsmen fitness is zilch.
All i am say is u would be a huge pessimist to believe this is the last of Gerrrard based on this statement.Yes maybe i am deluded but i certainly dont see anything malicious in this press release.I would have be concerned if they were not confident enough to predict his retrn from this set back.
P.S
Anyway apologies if my wordings were a bit harsh in the previous post.I didnt intend it that way.

Sepi wrote: He hasn't kicked a ball in 5 months, his return has been delayed 3 times, and now he'll spend SEVERAL DAYS at hospital to get rid of an INFECTION following the operation which took place 5 months ago.
This is what makes me think Gerrard might not be fit to play in September, as the report suggested. You can't spend 5 months on the sidelines, not properly training, and get Premier League fit in a couple of weeks. I agree with Sepi that it's looking, well, if not exactly suspicious, overly optimistic at least.
The fact that more than one recovery deadlines have flown by already would also suggest that Gerrard's return date is far wider open than "certainly September". But I do believe that we'll see him play a good number of games this season.

Could just be Gerrard is okay at the moment, but we're taking it slow. How many times have we rushed Stevie back just for him to re-injure himself again?
Also, good news... Reina, Johnson, and DAgger to play tomorrow night.

People who need to spend several days in hospital are usually not okay nor that is merely taking it slowly with such person's rehabilitation...
But I'm not too worried, we did fine without Steven in many games last season and now our Central Midfield is even better covered.

If Gerrard is absent for a long-term , who should be the skipper! It isn't for couple of games any more. Some one must lead the team week-in week-out.

Well i guess Carra has been filling the shoes for some time now . .& that has been through a bad patch . . also in the revival under Kenny . .so i guess he would be the obvious option

Will Carra be a regular starter though?
I'd say Reina, Johnson, Skrtel or Kuyt (if he's a regular starter) could be the captain in Gerrard's absence.

thats 1 thing sure imho (for this season at least).
many changes will have happended in our starting XI & squad, and we will need some reinsurances.
his level is another matter (decreasing with age catching up its true), but his leadership and experience at the back will be much needed.
thats how i think Kenny will see it

I dunno, picking Carra before fully fit Skrtel and Agger would be questionable, imo. But we'll see how it pans out.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
What are the chances of having a fully fit Agger and in-form Skrtel at the same time though? At this point in time Carra looks to be a starter at least until January in my eyes.
I have a feeling we may snag Cahill on the cheap in January if we don't sign a CB in this window, though.

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Raul Meireles will miss Liverpool's friendly with Valerenga because of a bruised foot.
Kenny Dalglish welcomes back fit again Glen Johnson, Pepe Reina and Daniel Agger for the match in Oslo, which you can watch live on LFC TV Online.
However, Meireles, Martin Skrtel (calf) and Steven Gerrard (groin) are still absent.
Dalglish intends to step up his side's preparations for the season by giving some players longer than the 45 minutes we've seen in most of our friendlies so far.
He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It's great to see Pepe, Glen and Daniel back. There are still a couple of injuries. Raul still has a problem with a bruise on his foot, and there's Steven and Martin.
"There are a lot of lads tonight who'll play longer than the 45 minutes they've played before. We're happy with the level of fitness."
Liverpool have lost successive pre-season encounters but Dalglish is anticipating an improvement at the Ullevaal Stadium.
"You're looking for a lot of things from the game," he said. "You're looking for an improvement in fitness, an improvement in sharpness and an improvement certainly in passing and moving the ball.
"The result is always helpful but it's not always a barometer of what's happening. Various teams and various countries are at different stages and levels of fitness. Valerenga are in the middle of their season so you'd expect them to be fit.
"We'll expect our players to be sharper than they have been because it's another game (on in pre-season).
"They're certainly training very hard and they're looking fit enough. The only way they're going to get sharp is with what they do on the pitch."
Meanwhile, Liverpool's Managing Director Ian Ayre laid flowers in the centre of Oslo as a mark of respect to the 77 people who died in last month's terrorist attack.
Dalglish added his own words of sympathy: "Obviously everybody's aware of what's happened and you have a great deal of sympathy for the people who have lost someone.
"We're here and if they (the Liverpool fans here) can get a wee bit of comfort from seeing the team they support here, then we've done a little bit to help.
"Obviously the people here and closest to it will be a greater help for the people who are suffering but if we can play a small part, then good.
"We've been through some sad times ourselves and any help we can give, I'm sure the club will be willing to do so."

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Kenny Dalglish today revealed that Liverpool have had some positive news regarding the fitness of Steven Gerrard.
The Reds captain began a course of antibiotic treatment for an infection related to an ongoing groin problem last week - and the boss told a Melwood press conference that he is making good progress in his recovery.
Dalglish said: "Steven won't be too far away. The tests that have come back are far better than what was anticipated, so we are delighted by that. We've had some very positive news and will just wait for the progress to continue."
He added: "We've had positive news but the date (of a return) the club has stated remains the same."

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Makes it imperative we sign a CB IMO
Liverpool FC’s Martin Skrtel to miss start of season with calf injury
MARTIN SKRTEL is almost certain to miss the start of the season as he continues to struggle with a calf problem.
Skrtel played every single minute of the last Premier League campaign, but has not appeared for Liverpool during their pre-season preparations.
The centre-back had hoped to be available in time for the opener at home to Sunderland on Saturday week, only to suffer a setback last week.
And the Slovakian, who yesterday pulled out of his country’s squad for the friendly against Austria next week, admits he has no idea when he will be available.
“I suffered an injury setback on Friday,” said Skrtel.
“I felt strong pain in my leg so I am back with the doctors receiving treatment.
“I really don’t know how long will it take to heal. I am doing my best to be back as soon as possible.”
Dalglish confirmed: “Martin has not joined in with us yet (in training). So we will wait and see.”
Skrtel’s absence adds to a defensive headache for Dalglish, with Liverpool having shipped three goals in each of their five pre-season friendlies this summer.
Liverpool end their warm-up programme at home to Valencia on Saturday, but the Anfield manager refuses to press the panic button.
“Pre-season is not a barometer,” said Dalglish, who also revealed Fabio Aurelio has resumed training. “You make your assessments. We know we have still got people to come back that will be important for us. If they do come back, they will be like new signings.
“It’s certainly helpful if everyone is singing the same song. At the start of this season, everyone is full of hope and aspiration.
“We’ve not played a game yet, really. When we start playing games, we will have to put our actions ahead of our words and make sure we do things properly.”

Re: The Liverpool injury Thread
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was greeted by wife Alex and kids today as he was discharged from hospital.
Looking a little tired, the Reds ace went home with his family after spending the last few days in Spire Hospital.
The 31-year-old England international was found to have an infection in his groin, an area he had surgery on last season.
He is expected to miss the first month of the Premier League season which kicks off on 14th August.

How serious was Johnson's injury? Is Skrtel the only one out? I can't seem to think of anyone else. ._.
