Mole... i didn't realize you're a Barca fan and it's unfortunate. I think you can be cured however. Most good people and football players eventually leave the cule club and never look back.

For those on this thread... just as an example, watch the first half of France-Belgium played this last Tuesday. Abidal erased Hazard in the first half. The kid could not exist. They moved him to the other side in the second half and you actually saw him...

It's also no coincidence that the best game Ribery has had with France in the Blanc era was with Abidal as his LB...

Sportsczy, I think you're overrating Abidal a tad now. Sure he is defensively solid (and pretty good at going forward) but he is top 5. He isn't near top 3 tough.

Enrique is also being overrated by Mole

Marcelo has been consistent throughout his years and his problem was he lacked defense. Lately I'd say he has improved alot on that and none can deny that his influence is immense for Madrid. He is a creative force at the LB position.

Point is, while many won't agree that Marcelo is better than Abidal, he is in my opinion. Abidal has played longer but Marcelo has been great whole 2011, it's time he gets the recognition he deserves imo.

Usually his flank doesn't attack so much becouse most of our attacking goes through our left flank (where both Ronaldo and Marcelo bombs forward, so attacking there can be abit dangerous) so being a great attacking LWB isn't so bad.

Cole has been Consistent for last 8 years. He NEVER had a bad game in his Arsenal career, Maybe an average game but he was ever so consistent. Just because he hasnt been at his best this season doesnt mean he has falled off the grid

How is Ashley not a better tackler ? Abidal was considered as a weak link at barcelona 4 years ago, If lithium forum was open i would show u the posts where barca fans wanted him out.

RG if you look at the last 2-3 years Abidal has been consistently great. I don't watch Ashley very often, but I would find it hard to believe that he is more consistent than him, especially since he does seem to have gone through up and downs recently.

I have no doubt that he erased Hazzard but come on, Zanetti did the same a few weeks ago.That dosen't make him the best LB in the world.

I have no doubt that he is good defensively but even there Lahm and Enrique are currently just as good if not better.

@ All the rest who are saying Marcelo is better than him.That is a fact. However he is not better than him at doing the duties of a LB .If you factor in team influence he easily surpasses him but they are isolating the position of LB and analyzing skills and attributes from that perspective .

Last time I heard, we want to keep him and he wants to retire at Barca. The hold up I believe is if the deal with be 1 or 2 seasons. Abidal is too important considering he plays two roles in the team and last season he was defensively our best player.

Doubt he doesnt get resigned.

Wont get into who is better or who isnt better then Abidal.

I dont think Barca fans would swap him (for just a season so age isnt a factor) with anyone else though. Not only would be be hard to be better then him at leftback, they would also have to be able to play centerback.
