Ashley Cole is not a better fullback than Lahm. No way. Lahm has been the best in the game for years. The only reason they actualy considered A.Cole better is because Lahm had to switch to RB.

Sure Abidal is defensively sound but would you give him the left back role in our team ? or can he replace ashley? enrique? lahm? i dont think so..

The only guy I can back there. The rest are kind of ambitious.

Abidal is nowhere near as good as any of the guys above in offensive contribution,also i doubt he will replace any of those guys in their respective team.

If Lahm wouldnt have to switch rb to lb, he would have been top 3 for me, he still is a very solid defender, reads the game well and gives good passes, but far as I know Im not convinced hes a better fb than Cashley. Maybe I should watch Bayern more, idk.

You never see a team send both fullbacks forward. You usually have one stay behind so that you always have 3 defenders to cover. With Barca, Alves is the one to attack. With France NT, Abidal overlaps and does it expertly. He's only had a chance to play LB twice because of injuries and had to cover CB with France most of 2011. Only at Lyon did they really use his attacking abilities to the max.

Defensively, nobody gets by him as a LB. Against Belgium, Hazard was so owned that they moved him to the other side in the second half to get away from Abidal.

That's the answer right there. They each offer something different depending on the system played.

Well the switch wasn't really his choice, more to do with helping Bayern. The man is an animal. Top 3 in both LB and RB. IMO, best fullback bar none.

Coentrao is actually defensively sound though but I guess it's all good. Also, I agree with the statement of Abidal going forward. It's not that he does it like Alves and Marcelo but he carries the ball out with sense, his overlapping is really intelligent and he can swing in a good cross every so often. I don't see why Abidal shouldn't be part of the best full back list in Europe.

If I wanted a left back I would pick abidal or Lahm, if I wanted a wing back marcelo. Abidal was the best LB before his injury, marcelo was awful for the first 7 months and Mou wanted to sell him. Marceloa is not a defender... Abidal is an old school full back, offers enough width in attack and is absolute in defence, his actuall job...

Thing is all other are more balanced than Abidal.All others have far better attacking qualities and ball skills.Cashley,Coentrao,Lahm,Enrique etc are definitely better overall LBs than Abidal too,you can take out mehcelo bcz he cant defend according to many..
