The Steam online service and the related forum have been hacked.
According to Valve Corporation no personal nor credit card details have been stolen so far, but they are recommending on paying close attention to credit card transactions used on Steam. A password change awaits users on their next log in, too. Steam service has got over 35 million users.

A Finnish source (so I won't link it).

Never used Steam, but it and EA's Origin have seemed to me like very hacker-prone services.

I don't believe the announcement by Steam. These "hackers" just took advantage of Steam's crappy forum which runs on an outdated version of Vbulletin. The steam service itself (and Steam accounts) are entirely independent from these forums.

This is probably the first time in 5 years Steam has been hacked.

I have a ps3 for some games(UC3, MW3, Fifa12), but there's nothing on console that compares to playing BF3 on PC, with a GTX580, maxed out settings on a 50".

Why? I think they've got a pretty reasonable service. At least compared to the utter sh*t that is Origin and Games for Windows live.
