Cassano’s wife Carolina was at his side in hospital for almost the whole of Sunday. Others aboard the aircraft say that during the flight Cassano got out of his seat to laugh and joke with teammates. Then as he walked across the tarmac to the shuttle bus, the Bari-born playmaker looked faint, tired and disoriented, had difficulty speaking and moving, and complained of blurred vision. At first, it was thought that he had had a sudden drop in blood pressure or been the victim of a violent intestinal virus. Clearly, it was more than a run-of-the-mill attack of flu so he was taken immediately to the polyclinic for tests. “The lad is not well and we are looking into it”, was the laconic comment from club doctor Rodolfo Tavana, who was at Cassano’s bedside from the moment he went into hospital on Saturday evening. The player is believed to have gone home in the early hours of Sunday morning but was taken ill again. He was admitted to the polyclinic’s neurology ward...

Milan have reassured anxious fans that Antonio Cassano is on the road to recovery after being struck by a mystery illness.

Cassano has been hospitalised after he started to feel unwell on the flight home to Milan after Saturday’s 3-2 win at former club Roma.

The Italian international is understood to have encountered speech problems on the plane, as well as difficulty in moving.

The 29-year-old has and will continue to undergo tests in a Milan clinic, but the Rossoneri are confident that the player is doing well.

“I spoke to Cassano five minutes ago and he was in a good mood,” Vice-President Adriano Galliani told Sky Sport Italia. “He seems calm.

“Cassano is strong and will certainly recover. The whole squad is supporting him.”

Galliani, though, refused to go into too much detail regarding what has actually happened to the former Sampdoria player.

“Every patient has a right to privacy and this is the case for Antonio too,” Galliani continued in the interview.

“There are doctors there and they are looking after him. I can’t give a diagnosis.

“I don’t know how long it will take for him to return. I’m not a medic, that is not my profession. He’s being looked after.”

Worst case scenario Italy now are without Rossi and Cassano for Euro 2012. Time for other forwards to step up the mark.

no chance in hell that balotelli will leave city for milan in the near, or middle distance future

There is a lot of young talent for the national team, so Cassano can be replaced I just feel sorry for the guy. Look at the upside, he may come out of it and go on a healthy diet and be able to play far longer than he would have without this issue.

Hope he's all right.
