Ferguson is known for his hate of international football. All he cares about is ManU, which is why many ManU players over the ages have retired early from international football. It's why Giggs and Scholes lasted so long.

Re: Vidic retires from International football.
It's a little strange, but on the other hand at 30 you probably don't get awfully excited about yet another qualifications for a major tournament.
...although if Serbia qualify for Brazil 2014, I wouldn't be surprised if Vidic announces himself to be available for selection again..

Strange decision indeed given his age, but also understandable. Gives him the chance to concentrate on his club football and also pass the mantle to a young defender to play for Serbia.

so ungrateful thing to do when your countries national teams needs you. The country that created you and made you what you are and for his Serbian fans ... I booo in this kind of moves that are only for himself and bring only good to him.

Re: Vidic retires from International football.
Given that they haven't qualified for the European Championships, all they have to aim for is the World Cup in 2014. With Subotic being only 22 years of age, it's probably better for Serbia to find someone to partner him for the next few international competitions, given that we don't know how Vidic and his body will age. He could go on, however it's his decision and I can understand wanting to prolong your career by decreasing the risk of injury and fatigue.
I don't see what is wrong with giving a youngster the chance to step up when they have three years to grow into a position. It's not like he's passing on the responsibility of representing Serbia immediately at an international tournament. If you're not sure if you're going to be there in 2014 it's best to give others the longest possible time to grow into a position and a partnership.
