When was the last time Barca appointed someone who actually had a history of success in first team football and the arguments for him didn't rely on "tiki taka football", "Barca DNA" and other arbritary stuff?

My question is why select this bum that they have now over someone like Allegri who is a proven successful manager? Is having Barca DNA and playing tiki taka all it takes to manage this massive club? I expect this kind of nonsense from clubs like Arsenal who have nothing else to offer to fans but Barcelona should be looking to get the best managers that are available.

But then apparently this is what the majority of Barca fans wanted so maybe the club did it right.

Barca are always picky with who they appoint. Makes their managerial pool very small. Barca would never go out and buy Mourinho for example (not this washed out version), they instead went for an inexperienced coach from within. Allegri isn't even in the discussion for them. It leaves them with coaches who've achieved nothing in their careers, who they appoint because they prefer keeping the ball instead of giving it away and hitting teams on the counter every now and again.


They'll probably get De Boer next who too will get found out while the likes of Allegri will wonder what if. Ok defensive coaches like him isn't an appealing choice but when you're up against a wall that's the best choice short term. We got Mourinho even after his team registered 10% possession just because of his winning mentality at the time

Perez had no problems appointing him again or Allegri if he could no get ZZ back eventhough no player likes them when again it looked like we had hit rock bottom

Bartomeu needs to be ruthless with these primadonnas. There has to be some level of autonomy from him. I feel like he's got no idea who to appoint and just wings it. This appointment reeked of desperation. Instead of waiting till the summer to get their beloved Pep back they went with this short term option, appointing a guy who has no problems losing as long as he has the most possession. At least if you're going for a short term option get a guy like Conte who can shake things up instead of a guy toeing the line achieving nothing apart from embarrassment

Calling them "picky" makes them sound like they know exactly what they want and what they are doing. But is that the case? The current Barcelona board are not from a footballing background, Fartomeu's understanding of football is on par with Ed Woodward and Daniel Levy, they go after names and Flavour of the Month coaches and players. Tata Martino, Valverde and Setién are great examples of this. Not that Laporta was a footballing person, but he had great advisers who understood the club and how they wanted to play. In fact Laporta was consulted in all footballing matters first by Begiristain and the legend Cruyff himself and some would even go as far as saying the Dutchman had the final word on transfers and coach selection (Rijkaard and Guardiola were both Cruyff's idea).

No it isn't, in a poll last month 80% voted against Valverde remaining as manager for another season but most voted for Klopp as replacement among Koeman, Guardiola, Ten Hag, Roberto Martinez and Roberto Moreno (don't even know who that is).

But Setien was hardly even considered.

Fair enough, I was basing it on that futbol post. I hope Barca fans get their wish and appoint a manager who is more suited to the clubs stature.

I highly doubt Barca fans, despite their disdain for Valverde, wanted him gone in the middle of the season so this is pretty much the Barca board being, well, kinda dumb.

We mostly wanted Valverde gone in the summer which didnt happen. We certainly didnt want him to be fired in such bad timing, and finally to hire some mid team chess playing coach who looks like turning out to be a disaster to truly mark the end of our era.

Had to happen sometime and somehow and we are just seeing it now

spending 110 millions on Martinez last summer would have been silly though, specially when we were looking at a picture where Suarez was the number 9 and not injured.

About the virus, the government is much improved in telling the truth nowadays in the develops of it, plus anything that they try to hide the social media pretty much covers them so pretty much everything is known. As long as you guys are not going to the Hubei province you should be fine, since thats the origin and they are blocking ppl from going in and off of there.

Thing to note is though many places in China I think if not most are making ppl wear face mask mandatory now, but because of the huge sudden demand and the fact its the CNY holiday (factories and supply chain are closed) means its very hard to buy any, there is a huge shortage. Thats China for ya, its a fuking pain living here at times lol.

If u decide to come here I dont think it would be an enjoyable time atm, nobody is going out and ppl are fearful....
