The thing is though he's never had a 5th season at the same club and his stints at Barca and City this season show his 4th seasons are his worst. Although City is freshening the team up it really wouldn't surprise me if they are even worse next season. His cycle at the club is coming to an end.

I find it weird so many people including pundits act like Champions League is a trophy that has eluded Pep. Did football start in 2012 or something? The man has two trophies. Here's the thing though... Bayern and City have, by far (and i mean a long ways), the largest wages and transfer budgers in their respective leagues. So to me, winning league trophies more often than not is a minimum for any coach of those teams.

Where you show your worth as a manager is in CL under these scenarios. Pep has not after leaving Barca.

This is like saying Blanc, Emery and Tuchel are great managers because PSG dominated Ligue 1...

Guardiola is so very lucky. Despite a poor season he is under no pressure at City and from his post-match speech I believe he is going to extend his contract too. Does anyone know a coach so protected by his employees?

Imagine outspending every team in EPL and CL and still not having anything to show for it. He is going to outspend every team again (already signed Torres and Aké) and while I tip City to win EPL again next season, I don't see them being successful in CL.

Why do you think he think he gets protected? The same was at Bayern? Is it because they still trust him, maybe don't completely blame him for the results? I don't see why he would get protected this much

Honestly, I don't know. I would argue that his reputation as the world's best coach helps. If you sack someone like Guardiola, who would you bring instead? I can only think of one man who would improve this team, Jürgen Klopp, and he himself considers Pep to be the best coach in the world.

He also has all his mates around him at City. From the CEO to sporting directors to scouts and even some in the medical team, they are mostly ex-Barça. Anyone else would have been sacked already IMHO, simple as.

I mean it hurts when you call Bundesliga Bundesfodder, because there's good football being played there, but in the end, Bayern spend twice of what everyone else does, and it shows.

And for City, they really shot up just the moment ManU and Chelsea declined, and it was only when Liverpool got both Klopp and started spending big that Liverpool stomped City.

It might ultimately be because I like the underdog narrative, but I've often said that managers that just throw around money don't impress me. A lot of recent winners just outspent their competition, if you want to impress me, you need to punch above your weight class, not precisely in it. Or even down.

I feel City need to ask themselves this summer if Pep doesn't sign an extension should they continue with him or not? Allegri and Poch are available, they won't be next season so if Pep ain't signing would be better for both parties to move on.

And it's another classic CL exit, where on one hand I feel a bit bad for him (the Sterling miss is horrendous, and the second and third Lyon goals were bad luck), but the fact of the matter is that City need to be walloping Lyon. Or at least winning comfortably.

There are no excuses when you look at the quality and price of the two teams. Pep owns this one and the trend for him is worrying tbh. He's still a top manager, and the CL is never easy to win, but ultimately, he mostly has himself to blame for CL failure post-Barca.

To not win one of the Premier League or Champions League will be a big disappointment for Pep - those are the two he would have wanted. The Champions League even more so because Manchester City have never won it. They have some very good players of course they do - but Pep needs to be supported in the transfer market this summer. It is not that they need many players - just three exceptional ones. We know that will not come cheap - but I would like to see Pep given the money to rebuild.

So 1 billion quid later, he wants his best mate to be given more money to waste on scrubs like Rodri and Cancelo.

I can already tell you that Ferran Torres will not be a success at City, at least not immediately. He is no Sané and I'd take Mahrez 9 out of 10 times and Silva 10 out of 10 times over him. I'm also not sure where he is going to play for City. Right wing like he was playing at Valencia? He is right footed, so unless Guardiola is thinking of moving him to the left wing, he will be utilised in a 'Navas role' which didn't quite work out for Pep. The only positive is that he's 20 and he can adjust to EPL, but physically he is quite weak.
