Obviously Lars or Gustavo would have been much better, but I think Fellaini would give us a lot of things we are lacking. He's physical, and is a threat on set pieces offensively and defensively, we desperately lack that. I think he'd make us better. Maybe he wouldn't be worth why we'd have I pay but I really don't care at this point

He's going to be a very good player, but that's a big investment for someone who's still developing as a player.

This makes sense to me too. I rate Benzema very, very highly. I think he's simply a great player. But many times I've felt that intangible sense as well - he's not hit his heights. He's underwhelming, albeit on an elite level. Still. I would be somewhat surprised if Wenger moves seriously for him, and very surprised if Madrid let him go.

Fellaini just hasn't played in that holding role for so long. I think some people do him an injustice by saying he was some kind of anonymous scrub back when he played as more of an out-and-out DM - he was catching people's attention at Everton even back then, too. But it'd just be a double concern as to whether (a) Wenger would get him to play a deeper role again, and (b) whether Fellaini would do well in that role.

It's true Fellaini doesn't seem to be the best fit for Arsenal and what Arsenal need. So I share doubts with others about him. But he is also one of those players that not all teams have an answer to. Even if you don't rate him very highly you've got to admit he can hurt teams.

The only possible rationale that is still a fraction justifiable for Arsenal's inaction in the market is that they were waiting to secure CL group stages for marquee players. They've pretty much secured that now.

Now I don't really expect 70-100m in signings. But...

I think overall, keeping it late has hurt the club and the squad. But if Wenger were to make serious signings in the next ten days (a really big IF!) he'd do a lot to help salvage the window. Plus people who were savagely critical of him - BTW I'm not saying he's above criticism - would have to eat humble pie. We'll see. I hope for the good of the club AW breaks habit and goes big.

Wenger would also like to add to his goalkeeping options but it is understood that a £6 million offer for Valencia’s Vicente Guaita, has been rejected. Guaita did not start regularly for Valencia last season but is expected to play a more prominent role this year and is valued by the Spanish club at £20 million.
Stoke’s Asmir Begovic is also an option and, although there has been no bid from Arsenal, Stoke City will delay sending Jack Butland out on loan amid fears of a move. Arsenal had a bid rejected for Begovic in January, with Stoke wanting around £12 million.
