Re: Real forgetting Raul
Retiring numbers isn't allowed in La Liga anyway. Besides I like the concept of carrying a number's legacy. Ronaldo is doing a good job representing the "7" and adding to it's history.

The #3 isn't being retired forever, young Danielle Maldini will inherit the shirt

Top scorer of all time for Real, former captain, top scorer in CL.
Is this for real? If so,Schalke Real .
Retiring numbers is for small clubs.
Now what a surprise this is, since Juventus does not have any retired numbers Surag thinks other clubs retiring numbers are small clubs which coincidentally includes AC Milan and Inter Milan. It also includes Roma and unofficially Chelsea btw. Small club right? We have triple the CLs you have ever won and yeah the most international trophies in club football, small club indeed. Retiring a player's shirt is a sign of respect and honour to that player. Understandable, you don't get this, because the words respect and honour do not exist in Juventus dictionary. Shame that Luciano Moggi does not have a jersey number, I'm sure his number would have been retired at Juve.
And btw Maldini's 3 can be taken by any of his sons.

Get off your high horse muppet.
The premise is teams dont just retire shirt numbers for the fun of it.
Some of these "small clubs" have their reasons.
Cheers.

Re: Real forgetting Raul
Nothing special. He had a few good seasons but he is only seen as a special footballer because of his longevity and because he fed off the good players he had around him. Even in his best season, he was destroyed in Ballon D'Or voting by Michael Owen.

Re: Real forgetting Raul
I've been a Barca fan since I started watching football, but I always liked Raul. A Madridista at heart and loves the club more than anyone... you always have to respect that. He's a great player too and more than that like Rwo just said he really is a class act. I don't care much that he played for Madrid, but he will forever have my respect.

Re: Real forgetting Raul
I have held a grudge against the club for the way they let Raul go but that that's a thing in the past now after that match. What a beautiful farewell and a great spectacle. Everything about Raul oozes class. Hope one day he manages Madrid.
