From Basque Country with Love
ATM, Bilbao led by Bielsa are dominating Paris st.Germain 2-0 along with missed chances.
I won't make a cheap shot on PSG who I actually respect atm but you got to hand it to Bielsa and his Basque accomplices so far at HT.
I hope to god this thread doesn't jinx that as it will be put to the test.
Bielsa is showing what he can do with this side.

Re: From Basque Country with Love
Well, PSG is resting 5 starters (Gameiro, Menez, Matuidi, Bisevac, Sirigu) who are all stars for the team. No surprise that the bench stinks.
As a general rule, L1 teams don't take Europa seriously at all. Not enough money involved and it's more important to win one of the 3 CL spots. You won't see a complete scrub team... but usually, a lot of the regulars won't play. Rennes only played M'Villa the last 20 mins of the game earlier and didn't play another 3 regulars.
I don't agree with the philosophy; but i understand it.
Regardless, good show by Bilbao.

Well the same logic can apply here as Bilbao aren't playing Garpegui, Toquero, Ander, Lopez and San Jose.
But I understand your point.
Serie A teams are the same as Udinese did not field 4 of their starters and paid for it by drawing with Celtic.
Frankly, both should be taking it seriously due to coefficients and not the merits that can be given by the EL as its quite useless financially and rewardingly.
am i not on you ignore list?

Re: From Basque Country with Love
Wow....
Considering Bilbao have been playing some of the worst football in Spain as of late this is very very shocking
PSG it seems still have a long long way to go

Re: From Basque Country with Love
Bilbao are actually in the same position as Enrique as criticizing them for their football atm is unjustified considering Bielsa and his unorthodox methods of football and philosophy will take time to develop and sink in.
Already they are looking better as although PSG were missing some players, so were Bilbao as many of their vital players were benched and still they made PSG look like a schoolboy team.
Bilbao as a whole are calm and tranquil as they know with patience and diligence that their system will soon click and top 4 will soon look very very likely.
Very similar to Enrique's situation.
Just wait.

Re: From Basque Country with Love
PSG has no depth... everyone who follows them knows that. It's the first year of new ownership and you're transitioning players in & out.
They also have a huge game against Lyon this Sunday, that is much, much, more important.
Also, the top 2 of each group go through. Salzbourg and Bratislava are not going to surprise PSG or Bilbao.
In short, the game was really unimportant for Europa competition and there's a massive game in 3 days = half the regular team rested and a lack of focus.
Bad result nonetheless. But one that nobody on the club or in France really cares about.

Re: From Basque Country with Love
They should in all honesty. French clubs don't wanna end up with the mentalities of Serie A clubs when it comes to winning Europa League. It isn't the UCL and would never be but it's a title worth winning. But that's just my idealist opinion honestly...

Superb bump Alfred!
Only you and I here can appreciate the subtle genius of this man. Bilbao only needed time and patience and have seen there tactics, system and philosophy come into play with a win over PSG and now a solid side of Sociedad.
Only a matter of time....
P.S..... Llronte..... .....

Re: From Basque Country with Love
Bilbao is in 16th place (20 team league) after this win. Still a long, long ways to go to even be considered adequate in La Liga... their first win in league. Makes the PSG performance even more awful lol...

Re: From Basque Country with Love
Its sad how Guillem Balague bashes hm every time on Revista, Balague is definately one of the worst pundits, imo. He always uses personal anecdotes to point out that "oh..i know whats happening" but in reality he just makes shit up.
On topic, Bielsa has a lot of work to do but its good that Bilbao has a good youth system. I hope he is given atleast 1/2 years to prove himself.

Re: From Basque Country with Love
@Cataracho and Alfred: It definitively was a great as this derby never fails to impress. The passion and importance onto the derby is what makes it among the best.
@Dom: he is a great manager who is unfortunately criticized for his unorthodox methods as some don't like to anticipate such change and out-of-the box thinking.
OT: People don't understand the concept behind some of the Spaniards thought process on one individual of a certain province can support his provincial rival when it comes to the overall progress and good of the province's philosophy and history. Examples are the great Asturians with their Gijon-Oviedo rivalry yet some of them support each other when on a large stage or against an important team. Some of the Catalans on how they will support Catalan football as a whole and disregard their respective rivalries based on the progress on the larger scale for the provinces' own football. And of course the Basque, as some of us, including I, support the Basque ideology and football as a whole rather then be stuck on its rivalry. Don't get me wrong, when it comes to these teams facing each other there is a massive rivalry, but many and I mean many of us spaniards simply do not admit that we want our own provinces teams to succeed on the larger scale simply for the progress of our football, our philosophy.
I wouldn't be surprised if people didn't know that the rivalry between Basque teams was actually deliberate by a large group of movers and shakers. Most of us know that.
It was purposely done so simply because the rivalry keeps us on our toes, to stay sharp, competitive and keep on improving until we reach the top. Rival team supporter rarely (some do) admit their support for their rivals when on a grander scale and against a grander opponent. Yet the desire is there. The rival fans coax and insult the rival team when on that stage as to almost hide their inner support, but it exists. This is not only proven among us Euskadi, but amongst most of the large provinces with their own football. Castilla is an exception.
This is the winning mentality of us as our rivalry among our teams only makes us stronger as there is an intrinsic sense of respect and bond that the Basque teams must know that that it is their duty to create platform upon platform for our ideology, philosophy and our football so that they can progress.
We are the strongest nation overall in Espana for reasons I can go on about. The Euskadi are god damn winners.
Bielsa must be given time as Bilbao is also known to be impatient and stubborn as this was the cause of their recent downfall.
