Which country would've won the WC of 42 and 46?
I think it's undoubtedly Argentina, or at least they would've put up a hell of a fight. At that time River Plate had one of the best teams in the world, colloquially known as 'The Machine', and if the best teams prevailed then I could see a final of epic proportions with the Grande Torino inspired Italy.

Wouldn't it have been 1942 and 1946? If it was those years Italy would have won. It was when the National team was made up of 9 starters from the Grande Torino (who some say was the best team of all time), all of which died in 1947 in a plane crash.

Most likely Ireland would have won at least one of them and would have had to be unlucky not to win both.

Di Stefano would of played in 46 , so it's reasonable to think Argentina would of had a strong chance

Probably Italy or Argentina. France would have won it all in the Platini era where they won at the Euros.

Di Stefano wouldn't even have made the starting team. He was loaned out of River Plate because there were much better optionsCrimson wrote:Di Stefano would of played in 46 , so it's reasonable to think Argentina would of had a strong chance
Trolling aside, Di Stefano himself has stated that when he was at River there were 5 or 6 better players than him, although I can't find the quote right now.

I'm positive that Fiji would have swept the world cup with ease.

Uruguay could have a few more worldcups if they actually participated in the 1934 and 1938 worldcups.
Now as for who i think that could have won the 1942 Worldcup, Uruguay, they won the Copa America that year.
And 1946? Uruguay too, even though Argentina won the Copa America that year.

He still scored 26 goals in 24 games before he was loaned out, then his amazing season at Huracan in '46. I still would like to think he would of made the team
In any case Italy v France would of been one hell of a final

Italy had the whole Grande Torino team whilst Argentina had Di Stefano. It's between them IMO.

Germany, with all the French, Russian, Yugoslavian, Greek, Italian players they would've had... :p
Too soon?
Okay, that was pretty horrible.
Who cares tbh? They didn't happen. Italy won right after though, so maybe them?

And most German's have a reputation of being completely innocent and shameful on WWII matters
Most likely Italy, or Argentina. Honestly if WWII didn't break out then, it would have broken out later. Pretty inevitable at that time.

Very hard to guess. Specially when we know so little about the players from that era. But IMO following teams would had a fair shout:
1. Uruguya was going great at that time. They had won couple of Olympics and the first WC.
2. Italy had a great team.
3. Without the war (and Nazi annexation) Austria would had a great team.
4. Argentina was on the rise.
