We cannot expect these performances weekly, though. The type of game Barca play suited our slow, tactically and technically able players like Nesta, Zambrotta and van Bommel.

Nesta was flawless, though.

I thought it was obvious why he performed one game and flopped the other. Against Lazio we played a very wreckless, open, attacking style where we were constantly exposed on the counter due to Nesta's lack of pace. The completely opposite applied to this game and so Nesta's physical flaws were left hidden. The defending ability was there in both games, from his gamesaving tackle on Klose to his terrific tackle on Messi. His performance will depend on the style we play which is why Allegri must be thinking so much about his defensive general.

Nesta's tackle on Messi should now be referred to as

that tackle

Messi's reaction afterward was priceless, he was so used to shooting after plays like that

Its just rare to see him like that, it shocked me a bit. Nesta isnt the one who often comes up with displays like that, and thats why I got concerned. Its actually a compliment, cause he is always good. I am probably wrong, but it just hit me with his age and injuries in recent years that he might be heading in the wrong direction on the pitch for once.

The tactical fouls just showed his class in knowing exactly when to make them and not making a single one too much.

It is more difficult for a defender to keep at attacker on his pocket than for an attacker to burn a defender.

Mostly due to the fact that a defender is the last man and needs to keep an eye on any passes the attacker makes.

So while Messi did indeed evade Nest a couple of times (rape is very bad use of words), it is expected with the best player in the world.

No defender in the history of the game have ever had a perfect game from what I saw except Claudio Gentile against Brazil in 1982.

It does not harm the defender that the attacker gets by him once, if he couldn't the rest of the time. Messi is not your run of the mill player, he is a prodigy. The greater the foes, the greater the hero. (depends who you were rooting for)

I asked this on Barca forums. Though Masch is good there, its not his natural position. Maybe Muniesa, etc coming up will fix it. Anyway, Milito and Chygry didnt become that 3rd CB-Puyol cover. It is a more crucial than wingers (Sanchez/Affelay purchases) to fix. Should concentrate on this in winter, other than that-a perfect team

The reason we didn't buy a defender is because Pep has gotten away with playing Masch, Yaya, Sergio at the back in huge games.

With the last couple of performances from Busquets at the back I think he will change his mind.

The most frustrating thing for me is having to sacrifice Busquets in the midfield to use him as a defender as he is such a great midfielder. Also we replace him with Keita which is a huge step down in class.

Well Muniesa has potential but thats all it is atm.... Potential....

Barca needed a CB to come in this summer with experience and Sanchez signing was an important one, the Cesc transfer was the one that was'nt necessary and a CB should have been purchased instead oh well.

Anyway this thread isnt about that, its about the fantastic performance of Alessandro Nesta who showed why he was the best in the world at one time for many many years, ok he cant play like that very often these days but he's still top quality and that tackle had me gobsmacked.....

The fact Fabio" only good at 06 WC" Cannavaro(JOKE) is even compared to Nesta is an absolute joke imo....

Nesta was and always will be leagues above him.
