I'm just gonna go ahead and say this match will blatantly highlight our faults so that we can improve for the home match against barca

i think we can manage a draw.. if not it would b a wake up call like the one against real last year... this would probably provide the fire power to win the league and an excellent season unless they are already woken up by the match last night

Re: CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Barcelona (Away)
Barcelona's fitness levels are the best in the world. The match vs Lazio showed that we are not yet ready for the new season. We have the quality to win the match, but I don't see Tuesday being our night.
Allegri has a great chance to go up against such a wonderful side. I wonder how he will approach this match tactically. I predict that he will use this lineup:
Possible subs - Cassano, Robinho, Ambrosini, Emanuelson, Aquilani

Re: CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Barcelona (Away)
I chose my score based on the score against Real Madrid (away) a couple of seasons ago where Pato scored a double. It would be epic if it happened again and yes, I do realise it's being quite optimistic - but wasn't that result optimistic too?
I'd take a draw and a 1 goal loss wouldn't be all that disappointing because we could improve and build on that, however I sincerely hope that we don't get hammered, that is the worst thing that can happen, even if we learn from it for next time. It would really dent our confidence and our image as a club that aims to win this tournament.

I dont think neither seedorf nor Robinho should start, for fitness level's sake.
MVB,Aquilani,Boateng,Pato,Ibra,Cassano should start.Nesta has to have the same performance he did in the second half.Abate needs to learn how to cross and make passes on the final third (in 3 days ).

It's Abate, surely he can re-learn in 1 hour.

yesss
Robinho, Seedorf and Zambrotta: Recovered!
According to a report by Sky Sport 24, the three absent yesterday for the game against Lazio, Robinho, Seedorf Zambrotta, are well and have recovered from physical problems.
The three have not been spared in the tackle and the physical effort. Robinho, Seedorf and Zambrotta are ready to take the field.
GREAT!!!!!
zambrotta is a huge plus on that LB

This is great news. I always expected them to be fit, but they're fit so soon and that's exciting. Now all we need is for Taiwo to regain fitness super-fast!

Re: CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Barcelona (Away)
We need experience, running and potent attacking prowess on Tuesday night if we really wanna stand a chance.
Seedorf ain't match-fit, neither is Robinho, but we need them at some point in the match.
my prescription would be this:
The defense is as fixed as it gets.
Abate-Nesta-Thiago-Zambrotta
In midfield, we need Van Bommel to lead and be 'the' pillar.
Boateng on the right should break up play Gattuso-style and use his pace on the counter, Barca's biggest weak spot.
And Aquilani on the left should be the creative force, while running around and supervising the work of his two coworkers down the middle.
As for attack, we can't afford to field a rigid Pato-Ibra with Boateng behind them.
Since there's no Kaka and Ganso in our team [yet], the most viable option to fill the 'hole' is Cassano.
Cassano + Pato + Ibra = Finesse + Pace + Power
Back to the second and the most important part of the team, It's definitely a real bitch of a dilemma who to field down the middle.
One would say since we don't have the slightest chance of surviving with an attacking or even semi-attacking midfield trio, we should go for the extra safe package and field Van Bommel, Ambrosini and Nocerino simultaneously.
I disagree.
While technically we are nowhere near Barca's phenomenal midfielders, we can somewhat make up for it by slowing down their play through Seedorf's unbelievable composure and touch, aided by Van Bommel's similar characteristics.
Seedorf in the second half is a big fat MUST, because there's no player in the competition with as much experience as his in Europe today.
But until then, we need to keep them at bay by running like we've never done before.
I want Boateng and Van Bommel dead by the end of the game. They should run to death...

Re: CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Barcelona (Away)
Let's see what we can do the past three season in Serie A we have blown the first game of Serie A, Bologna, Cesena and now Lazio and we have gone on to do well in the league, so I'm almost used to that now. I think we have the ability to challenge Barca, we will have Zambrotta, Seedorf and Robinho back and I think Allegri rested them so that he can have them at 100% for the clash against Barca. We have an inform Antonio Cassano and that can be very dangerous to a back line that I think is beatable and has shown to be beatable when you can actually attack them. If we can find a way to shut down the Attack of Barca then we will have a great chance in this game, their best form of defense is attack. I want us to attack Dani Alves at all times because he has shown to be a horrid defender, but great attacker. Here would be my line up for this game.
------------------------Zlatan-----------Cassano
----------------------------------Prince
--------------------Aquilani----------------Seedorf
------------------------------Van Bommel
------Zambrotta---------Silva---------Nesta-------------Abate
----------------------------------Abbiati

Re: CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Barcelona (Away)
Woah the MIGHTY Barcelona didn't win? That's weird...
I really want to see Cassano behind Pato and Ibra but I'm not sure it's the best formation for this game. A few posters seem to believe that Prince is the best option for the attacking midfielder position but I find him to be pretty useless there. He can't pass, his touch isn't the greatest, actually tbh he's pretty average overall.
The midfield trio is also difficult to pick. I'd say aquilani and bommel are a must, and either prince or nocerino for the last spot might be best. Everyone has to be running on all cylinders this game. Sitting back and giving Barca time on the ball will be suicidal. We have to constantly pressure them. Our attack can definitely outplay their defense so if we can limit their possession, we might have a chance.

I hope we wont see this formation, I would never forgive Allegri for it, I dont mind losing, as a matter of fact I am not expecting anything but losing this match, but dont let us just give it to them.PinePHresh wrote:Barcelona's fitness levels are the best in the world. Look at our left Seedorf and Zambrotta, how slower can that be? How easier can we make it for Alves and Messi or whoever plays on Barcas right.
Imagine Pedro-Alves, or Sanchez-Alves or Messi-Alves. Or just Alves making use of Inesta and Xavis passes to that side!!!!!

Sacnhez is injured,Pedro and Villa are f*cking awful right now.Messi will probably be the 9,so no Cesc.Puyol will be off form.Alves isnt going forward like he used to.
Im expecting a loss, but a rape against us wont happen if Alegri choses the right midfield and lb imo
