building an overall squad is relatively modern. A team from the 90s, say Ajax or AC may have a stonger 11 but from 14 or so, where the players 1st team options or just in case players?
Ac for instance rarely rotated. Could they rest 8 of their first 11 like Utd this season and arguably play better than their first 11?

Barca imo are weak on striker and defender depth.
Madrid need a backup striker themselves and a few competent fullbacks.
I literally dont rate Pepe or Carvalho.

Utd may be weak in realive terms in midfield , but with Anderson and Cleverley playing like demons keeping Carrick and Giggs on the bench..does that matter?
Carrick and Giggs did pi55 on 99% of the big teams they faced last year.

Strongest squad of all time is pushing it a little bit but it's pretty good. That team ain't even starting.

We definitely have depth that's for sure.

The only world class players in this united team are Rooney, Vidic and Evra. Player for player United is behind Manchester City and Chelsea in terms of quality, but they have that winning mentality that keeps them going.

Fairly sure Giggs assisted a few times to beat us last year... But I agree, player for player they are not as strong but as a unit they are freak, the teamwork and work rate is top notch so they are playing like a much much better team.

Torres over Rooney?
Kalou over Young?
Mikel over Anderson?
Lampard over Giggs?
Ivanovich over Da Silvas?

What youre doing is judging players by names. Names they dont develop and buy ready made. No coincidence that you named the 2 clubs in England that buy the most names.

Utd are a great team. I hate this whole mantality over crap.

Utds midfield 2 have been great thus far. Young is sensational, Welbeck fantastic with Rooney godly.

I'm not talking about in comparison chelsea? I'm saying in general they are a young, growing team. IMO the same way Xavi wasn't amazing but when the barca team became a unit they grew as players.

United do have an extremely strong squad, but strongest squad ever is pushing it. But with the inclusion of Young now on the left wing, with Nani on the right, Rooney in the middle, and Rio and Vidic holding that backline, they have one of the strongest squads in europe for sure.

Haha you can't judge that now. Great team and tactics, but when the seasons only started and city have a chance of winning the league too it's too presumptuous to make these claims

Yes but squads are a modern aspect, squads till the 80s were nothing, 11 players and a bunch of nobodies.
90s had a bit more squad depth but not much.

Utd 99 had Blomquist and Butt coverinb the whole midfield. Johnson defence with Phil Neville the only FB cover.
The invincibles had basically the starting 11 plus Grimandi and Parlour

Barca's Very little depth its a myth just like United's last year.Only area they are slightly lacking is CB but then Busquets Abidal and Mascherano have excellent versatility as CB so its eliminated to a large extent.There 2nd choice midfield and attack is far superior to any team bar Madrid.

Cant see why not. Sir Alex purposefully delegates a llot of the running ofthe club to others as to not rely on 1 man.
A lot of his signings are from the advice of others.

All well need is a competent replacement
