I think the values are a bit inflated.

Honestly, who would pay 45m for an aging Villa, or 35m for declining Xabi Alonso. (Man City is not a valid answer)

But again, these are not market prices, these are players values based on many, many things.

I know they're different types of players, however I can't justify Sanchez being considered to be of greater value than Benzema. Such a high price in the first place could only be based upon potential, however then a player such as Varane is only rated at 8 million despite being only 18.

I think high price tags have a lot more to do with visibility than ability. Hence how Palermo were able to raise Pastore's price tag simply by mentioning how good he is rather than proving it on the pitch.

I realise that the criteria are always bound to be significantly qualitative at times, however I still found it quite surprising, especially given that most seem to be reasonable evaluations. Perhaps I don't realise when a Serie A player is becoming particularly visible as I'll know about them anyway, where as some might only be able to list a few young, bright talents in the league at a particular time.

If the problem is that Sanchez has a higher value than Benzema then the solution is simple - as I remember it, when Benzema was purchased Madrid were the only ones in the competition. With Sanchez there were over 5 interested clubs, and one in particular that drove up his price quite a bit. Since the marginal sets the price, Sanchez had a higher price because of increased competition for his name.
