why dont we create a thread where we display different lay outs and use them if wanted

there is a extensive for phpBB which allows you to have more then one theme

that could be possible but that would take alot of forum memory causing the admins to be forced to buy better hosting

Well not everyone is going to like the theme if its changed so it would probably be best to leave it as is or add multi-themes
