We might not require one, but have we even got one, especially with Lass now leaving?

Pepe is more of a DM than CB to me Varane can play DM as well...

The fact that Pepe has played against some of the best international teams in the world as DM and stood up to the challenge proves that he is better than Lass in that position. Have you seen Lass for France he is Mr. Mediocre at best, and for us is is Mr. Mediocre and Mr. Inconsistent.

Pepe has also in the few roles he has been given at DM for Real Madrid excelled.

Varane and Albiol can also play in front of the back four as a pure demolisher.

Not to mention Coentrao can cover most of the DM duties while playing B2B, like a winger version of Essien.

pepe is the right man for that

With the style of play we have developed this year do we even need a pure DM? (the answer is no btw)

Pepe is decent at DM but he's a CB first and foremost.

I almost forgot that he did such a good job with portugal, fair point.

But here is the thing, Pepe was played in a very specific enforcer/destroyer role as a DM, with protugal and Real, and he did a very good job. But all we did was playing him to his strength, him being such a great athlete, and using also his man markind skills.

problem arise if we start to play him in a wider role, which will have him tap into a larger array of skills he doesnt possess. Mainly, distribution of the football to forward players.

As a quick fix, it's a good option, but it doesnt go further than that.

Mvila, Ramos and bastian.

since we can no longer consider lass a part of the squad i think it is necessary to start considering pepe as a DM, its a last resort because we really dont have one.

he has done well in the past in that position for us and for portugal mainly.

if the situation arises where we need a DM, well unless we buy one we have to use pepe.

Ramos and Varane for the two CB slots, pushing Pepe up to midfield permanently.

Khedira is not doing it for me. I want a first team that can win el Classico and every other game.

Players who aren't transfer listed like Albiol, Carvalho, Khedira and Kaka need to be shipped as well if they don't pick up their performances when it counts. Similarly, Ramos needs to get his shit together when facing up to anyone of Villa's quality or greater- he is getting roasted against top wingers and second strikers.

I don't get why so many are obsessed with pure DM's. I would rather have midfield full of guys like Alonso except with a little bit more pace rather than pure physical DM's which tends to be quite one dimensional.

I agree with you however I think it's certainly advantageous to have at least one pure DM on the squad.
