spanish goal keepers are overrated

its just my opinion, they dont have to deal with those high ball, all they have to do is be a shot stopper. almunia would be a world class goalkeeper in spain ffs. you see how much de gea is struggling with those high balls is because he is too small and not physical enough, he needs to add that to his game. if casillas and alves played in England they would suck too.

I don't see any reason why they wouldn't be capable of adapting, Reina for instance is a wonderful keeper. Certain examples may show less adaptability to their game, there is certainly that to your argument, however in the end we can only view certain types of players on what they are allowed to show and Spain currently have three very talented and established options in goal. De Gea is only 19 and was still hardly the finished product in Spain, he deserves time to grow and he'll still be a wonderful keeper for United in the future, they're fortunate to have him. United have had a long time to search for Van Der Sar's replacement, they wouldn't have made their choice lightly by any means.

Reina... Diego Lopez... Palop... All good at aerial balls.

Difference is, in Spain teams don't hoof the ball into the box half as much in England. Casillas is good enough in the air, he gets the balls he's supposed to get. But he doesn't dominate his area in the same way as Chech do for example. He's average to good in the air but excellent at most other attributes.

Doesn't make him/other spanish goalkeepers overrated. ffs, Casillas have been a major factor in two CL titles, one world cup and one Euro title.

yet overrated spanish keeper pepe reina won pl golden gloves three times in a row...

they may be slightly worse than english/whatever keepers when dealing with high balls and crosses because as has been explained, they don't have to face those that often in spain and tbh that doesn't mean anything because their other attributes more than make up for it, even when they meet english opposition

diego lopez conceded no goals over 4 games when villarreal played man utd in cl... look up guaita's videos from last season, how many point blank saves he made... valdes has the best shot/save ratio in europe... point is, i'd much rather have a keeper who is a competent shot stopper than who is "commanding" in the area... of course that's because most of the teams my team plays don't play kick and run :coffee:

I reckon this stems from De Gea's performance and once again, a bit pre-mature. Shouldn't even use Alumnia as an example as he is just a bad goal tender all round. There is nothing about him that stands out and I highly doubt he'll be any better in Spain...
