Re: Off-Topic Garden Café
Who would've believed it? My last post in this thread dates back to October 3! WoW!
I haven't posted any more than 2-3 posts in total since then anyway.
Well, fellas, I'm alive but am different to the last time you heard of me.
The story is, since when I was too little to be visible, say 4 or 5 years old, I dreamed of learning foreign languages.
I would funnily imitate CNN and BBC's reporters and asked my dad - who knows good English - as many questions as I possibly could.
The result was, I could write and read English before I was 7 i.e. unbelievably enough I learned English before Persian (of course not in terms of talking)!
Years passed and I would participate in any institute available to catch some English course, and every time, they would shut the place down in 6 months max.
At age 6, 11, 13 and finally 15 I could get what I wanted but they all hit snags and I was forced to stay away, but I never lost hope of finally perfecting it.
So I started to timidly but enthusiastically wander in websites and watch movies with English subtitles.
Whilst having always been the undisputed top speaker of the language among my many friends, I was never quite satisfied with my all-round knowledge, but...
Since 2008, I've been constantly reading, writing, listening and Watching stuff in English, and I finally hit my desired spot.
So, the point? Well, my good news to my best friends that happen to be you, is that I landed a f*cking translation job!
Out of nowhere, out of nothing, comes out a university master of mine who tells me, "Look boy, I know you're way too good at it, but let's face it, nobody gives a 21-year-old guy with no full beard a serious translation job, but I have this project-management book that a credible organization has asked me to turn into Persian, and as I have no time, I wanna delegate it to you. Since I will edit it and you are using my reputation and name, I will take 30%, the rest is yours..."
That's it! At 21 I'm translating a 300-page American book on project-management that people are craving for in Iran, and my name will be printed on the cover... Think about it! My damn name! What would my girl say? How about my family, my buddies? Man, I'm ecstatic, simple as that.
That's more or less the main reason why I've been too busy recently.
I might have skipped the forum for a while, but not Milan, as it's an organ of my body just like my liver is... Can I live without my liver? In the same way, I can't go through a day without my beautiful, sexy Milan.
Been watching all the games and checking all the news and reports, I'm well in my element in that area.
The other reason is I'm on the run from PinePhresh, who sure is a demanding guy and ordered me to give him a full report on how things go in Iran's genocidal regime...!
Hey dear Pine, be sure I haven't forgotten you and your request and I promise to do it (only for you) when the time (and the mood!) was there, but for now, let me be... pleaaaaaaaaaase?
And off the record Pine, you seriously enlightened me about the Sexist thing... I realized I am indeed one and I've been working on fixing it (although not in the way you might think!)
I realized that I love my mom more than daddy, I like my female co-workers better than male ones and I get on better with female students and masters in Uni.
Oh, as for my girl, don't let me start. She's freaking ^&%*(*)*$#*()!!!!!!!!!
Actually, I've become the guardian angel of women both at work and Uni. The other day some guy raised his voice upon a chick at work and I stared him in the eye and went like, "This ain't no way to talk to a lady. Behave yourself big guy."
The punk got embarrassed and yelled at me too, but I had already made my point and the girl was in a loss of words out of gratitude.
Yeah, Pine, I'm a sexist in favor of women and need to fix it! Men are cool too!
Anyway.
I will post a couple comments this week because I need to. You have no idea how relaxing it is to think and type in English - Much smoother and more joyful.
See ya soon boys (and Milanaa), I hope things are working out for all of you as good as they are for me.

Iras, you have a very bright future ahead!
Your writing skills would be surely increasing by just translating those books, you will gonna make your own book one day!
To dreamer, I don't know if you will read this or not, but I will gonna miss you. We have been on this forum (since goal) for two years! Stay healthy, and never hesitate to come back here, the negativity won't last forever.

Re: Off-Topic Garden Café
Dreamer is my all time favorite poster on the net, and I've had countless PM conversations with him in the last two years.
He was a great adviser on real-life issues to me, you don't find too many cool 67-year-old dudes on Football forums these days!
I know he will revert the decision when the time comes...
Milanaa also said she'll leave forever and yet she returned a few times, this has been the case with many, I'm sure Wim won't disappear for good.
In any case, I wish him, his wife and his birds all the best...

Re: Off-Topic Garden Café
You know guys, I've experienced one of the most unbelievable, enlightening, thrilling, mystical incidents one could ever do, I've immediately become a new person, I am somebody else since yesterday.
When a dream comes true, specially one like mine, you feel a revolution in you, a feeling of ecstasy, as if you're walking on air, or strolling through a rainy jungle with your girl and her dog. You tend to constantly sing, give five to people and ask for it.
To put it simply, you wanna hug the world and kiss it; a nice wet smooch.
I know that I might not know much, but I'm confident I've come to know enough to be qualified enough to advise you to do something from now on.
If I was to die today and you were to remember me by only one single quote, then that would be this:, "Never, ever give up on your dreams, specially the most impossible-looking ones."
Not for one moment guys, don't even think about giving up.
My story?
I had defined two sets of dreams for my life: short-term goals and long-term ones. And funnily enough, my short-term dreams looked so impossible you would've laughed. Even more so than long-term ones.
As Hollywood-like as it seems, I fulfilled my short-term dream in less than a year.
I had the opportunity for several times to compromise "the dream" for "the acceptable", and I went THIS close to losing faith, but some invisible power saved my ass from becoming just another ordinary guy.
That invisible power is called desire, it's called passion for what you want, and most importantly, the feeling that if you don't get to EXACTLY what you want, you're a loser, or worse, a nothing - a nobody.
I insisted on what people typically consider wrong and I slipped once or twice on the way, but never fell, and this proved to be decisive in the end.
This was by far my most lucid wake-up call ever, something that will most probably and hopefully determine my path from now on.
Remember: "Never lose hope, never give up, never compromise. Never listen to negative people and their absurd remarks. And always, always follow your dreams."
P.S. And for the record, my dream was not my new job. That was destined to come sooner or later. I'm talking about something big here.
P.P.S. Yes MF7, Dreamer is 67. in THIS webpage, you could see his signature quote at the center and his photo on the top-left of the page.

Re: Off-Topic Garden Café
In Persian we say, "The more you perceive, the paler you look."
Sometimes I'm jealous of literally retarded people.
Just look at them, they are always making noises, goofing around, singing even. They seem to be more or less unaware of what goes on around them and they truly enjoy life as long as they don't quite come to understand they lack something compared to "normal" people.
In his phenomenal masterpiece, "Forrest Gump", Winston Groom magically creates a character that is supposed to symbolize the ordinary American, but he slyly implies that being retarded is actually better, and at the end of the book, concludes that what we consider the scientifically proven criteria to determine whether someone is an "idiot" or "intelligent", is actually useless.
I don't know about you, but while feeling superior intellectually to someone else could bring truckloads of joy, it's sometimes a stifling sensation to be able to read people's minds, hidden layers and pathetically exposed means. To be a step ahead of less smart people whom you love, people who wanna ineptly deceive you; can kill you, because you know for sure what's to come, and while you hope you're wrong and want them not to do it, they do it and you just can't help but get either disappointed and depressed, or frustrated and angry.
Yesterday I read someone's mind, I predicted what she wants to do and guess what, she did just what I thought.
I was praying I am wrong, but no, reality was cruel.
It was painful to be able to see her clueless face who thought she's actually got me fooled, while I was laughing hysterically on the inside knowing just what a dumb creature she is. She acted all confident and in-control, but it was like the performance of a stupid actor in one of Ed Wood's films.
It's hard to choose, but if we could, which one would we choose?
To be a cool, relaxed retard, or a depressed, restless intellect?

Re: Off-Topic Garden Café
Cheryl Cole once sang a song by the name of "Fight For This Love".
It is really strange, but it looks as if every single singer is remembered by one signature song, like Chris de Burgh's "Lady In Red", Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way", Bon Jovi's "It's My Life", Leonard Cohen's "I'm Your Man", Britney Spears' "Oops...I Did It Again" and so on.
Cheryl sings, "if anything's worth having, sure enough is worth fighting for"
Is she right? I'm not showing any bias toward any answer, but just asking, is she right?
I'm just a little confuzzled (a combination of confused and puzzled), wouldn't that mean we'll be fighting all our life? Don't we need some peace for a change?
Or, could it be that we need to fight for most valuable things in order to truly acknowledge their value?
In Persian we say, "What's brought by the wind, is taken by the wind.", which means if you find a diamond on the floor and take it home, some burglar will happily take it from you a week later, not even by force.
I've been fighting for too long, not that I'm tired or anything, but there's a bigger question eating me from the inside: Is it worth it? Is there a future in it? Will that make me happy?
Should I live my life in a one-day-at-a-time fashion? Or should I be constantly worrying and planning for an unknown future?
When we are saving up, why do we do it? What happens if while I'm saving 50 dollars a week to buy that shiny 2500$ watch in a year, suddenly win the lottery? Will I regret the great moments I could have spending those 50 bucks or will I still praise my carefulness?
Are we living in fear? Or is it called something else?
Like I asked before, do you know any unhappy dumb-ass? Can we turn into one overnight? I wouldn't mind being one for a little while, see how that might feel for a change.
I am gonna sleep now, it's 5:10 AM here and there's too much on my mind.
Now, should I just pull my plug out or shut myself down safely? In both cases, god will push the "Power" button tomorrow, right?
Forget it, I just wanna lie down.

I actually have met a lot of them, but that's not the point.vu wrote:ever met or just seen a mentally challenged person...?

Meeting them was not an inspiration for my post.
I seriously don't know which one I'd choose if I were to be reincarnated back into this world, but I can tell you it's a tough call.
I just said when you look at them, how little their world is, how limited their wishes are, how irresponsible they are allowed to be, and how light-hearted and how over-trustful they are, it just makes you think.
Speaking of trustfulness, you might not believe it, but once I had some retarded coworker whose wife one day called him and asked if they could grab a Pizza that afternoon. He came to me, and asked quite seriously, "Abbas, I'm tired today, can you take my wife and kid and get them some Pizza? I promise I will pay you the costs, OK?"
And I was like, "Your woman loves you more than me, so I guess it would look better if you took her, don't you think?"
A smile appeared on his face, "She does? Well I guess I'll take them. But if you could do that for me, it would be so good."
The guy doesn't understand the basic dynamics of marriage and gets on well with everybody, don't you love to be so empty-headed SOMETIMES? I'd like to test it for a month, see how it feels like.
My thoughts are weird? Haha, maybe they are, I don't know. Perhaps that's due to the fact that I transcript absolutely whatever that goes on my mind through keyboard and post them in the forum, and also because I'm not afraid of letting others know what I think.
Try it VU, it's a lot of fun to get feedback from others, get to know what they think about you and your way of seeing things.

Re: Off-Topic Garden Café
Congratulations.
Now you can look forward to absolutely despising high school students whenever you see them in public in the future
Stop standing in a massive group around doorways, stop crowding the bus and stop having the most inane conversations in existence, very loudly, in my presence.

Speaking of teenagers
I'm not sure if its an Australian thing but it could very well be overseas
Does anyone else absolutely hate it when teenagers (especially the females) just sit in the most stupid spots in public. Like on the sidewalk. On the pavement. When there are seats available.
A continuous source of annoyance.
