A tale about young, inexperienced sides...
Yesterday, BVB had nothing to play for after 65 minute and sat back. HSV launched waves of attacks to get something out of the game. They scored 1 to make it 3-1 then BVB turned their motor on again and controlled the match until the end.
On the other hand, we've Arsenal, a team that gives away 4-0 leads... Everytime, people mock them about it, we hear the excuse, they're inexperienced. Dortmund and Real Madrid are very young sides comparable to Arsenal. If you think that Real Madrid is a bad example, then take Dortmund. I don't think that being young/ inexperienced has got much to do with the work ethic or attitude on the pitch. The players must have winning mentality, help each other to control the game and there should be a set plan for how to control a match when you go up.
I think it's clearly Wenger's fault. Shutting the shop is one of the most important aspects of football and for attacking side with superb ball control it should be very easy but Arsenal fails at it all over again.

Arsenal does not emphasize defense... in fact, Arsenal will give up defense for better offense. They just don't know how to tighten the gaps and change their shape with leads. The gunners' best defense is to continue to attack and hold on to possession.
I think that's a flawed approach. You have to know how to protect leads and play for draws.

When did we ever use the "they're inexperienced" excuse when it comes to losing leads?
We usually say that we don't have the winning mentality, or our defense (as a collective) isn't good, or that the referee was an ass, or our GKs suck....I don't ever recall using the "inexperienced" excuse when it comes to letting leads slip

Its not like we CAN'T defend. The games against Barcelona proved that we can defend very well as a collective unit. Sadly, this doesn't happen often.

Remember Arsenal was down with 10 men. But still conceding 4 goals was a bit ridiculous. They need more experienced players on the pitch, who can show proper composure when the going gets tough.
