Our overlaps from the RB and LB have been piss poor all four games. That's the reason everything seems so crowded.

It kind of is Marcelo's fault. His job is to create width first and foremost... even if the ball doesn't come his way or the play fails, he needs to take defenders to the sideline with him. But he's trying to be a superstar. Until you get your job done, you can't get cute like he is.

the left flank is crowded.

post galaxy match when coentrao has played with marcelo.. we have basically been playing with 2 wing backs + ronaldo occupying the LW.

its crowded and its my opinion that we played much better when sami in because it suddenly became less crowded when coentrao was taken off.

@ Nick, maybe the Mou's worst signing isn't Altintop, maybe it is Coentrao. If he doesn't play his normal position and doesn't adapt to MF then it was a bad signing for a position we don't need.

we still dont know if he is going to be a midfield, i'm not assuming that he will.

we have no idea where coentrao fits when everyone if fit, but i do know that he isnt playing ahead of di maria, nor khedira nor sahin, which leaves the defense.

Does anyone know when the super cup game is, the game in Barcelona? I know the one in Madrid is Aug 14th.

We have 3 more friendly before the supercup games.

July 30th in Leicester, UK
Aug 3 in Guangzhou in China
Aug 6 in Tianjin in China

oh, and also a game at home Copa Bernabeu. It must be around Aug10th

well... is Ramos staying at RB? Not impressed with Carvalho.

You can forget Varane at RB lol. I don't even think Coentrao can do it since i"ve yet to see him do anything on the right side of the field.

Kind of a head scratcher this one.

Personally, I think Coentrao is going straight to the bench. He will flop, we can't have perfect deals and just like last season Pedro Leon was our flop, I think Coentrao will be. Or Sahin will be, becouse Callejon is doing fine as the backup and Varane is a gem with potetial.

Only one who can flop is obv. Coentrao imo. Sahin is a natural midfielder, no doubt that hes a good addition to us and he has a place for midfield. Coentrao flopping in midfield is a considerable, since he hasnt played really there and him linking up with the offense is poor.
I can only see him as a RB and linkin up him as a Di Maria/Özil could work.

coentrao is just out of place regardless.. not as versatile as most suspected.

and to be honest i wouldnt mind if mou started coentrao as a LB and experimented with either marcelo as a RB or part of the midfield- cant fail any harder than coentrao has in the past couple of games.

this is preseason people this is when we have the ability to experiment. but obviously im not mou so if he wants to keep beating a dead horse by playing coentrao in the midfield with xabi then more power to him

i don't know if moving Marcelo around is such a good idea... he can barely hang on to his responsibilities right now and he's been training for it for years. Move him around and he may just decide to b-line for the CF spot lol.

I feel the same, unless we play our usual way against Barca I feel we are not ready yet against them. And losing means I'll have to take the bullshit from my friends.

coentrao is definitely versatile, but is he a midfielder? hell no. h would do much better on the right tbh.

ramos as CB, and mourinho would be smart to ask ozil to play a lot closer to the mid. it's useless to have 4 people in attack at the same time, the runs coming from deep will open up the defense more easily than having 4 players in front of the box, and marcelo running in the middle again.

When Benz played as a false 9 tonight, it helped a lot. Khedira being in there too obviously. You can't rely on Ozil to create in the midfield. He's a last 1/3 player right now. Need help for him. Benz can provide that.

Even bigger issue is lack of width. Our RB and LB have been horrible with their runs.

obviously coentrao failed us today and sami proves us a lot...

coentrao might be the next gago if he continues to play like that in the midfield. double pivot is not for him.

I think the Barca games in August are going to be very similar to the April/May ones.... Mou doesn't have a choice really. We don't have the horses to play an attacking 4-3-3 with Sahin out.

he is going to play xabi-khedira-coentrao against them, it's the only reason coentrao is tested in the midfield, it's for the clasico

Not surprised hearing Coentrao didn't do well in midfield (again), he did great againts LA more in doing a winger role imo, he should play either LB pr LW


About Ozil being a last 1/3 player, didn't he played deeper when we played Chivas in the second half? At least that how I felt. And he did it very well, he created a lot. Not sure about why he played deeper one time and not so much another time, whether he just did it the way he felt it, or just followed Mourinho's instruction.

see, when benz plays as a false 9 (his natural position, especially at lyon), he plays much, much better. Unfortunately we might need an out and out finisher like higuain. But benz can still do that role adequately.
