I felt the production wasn't too good, but he still delivered lyrically. It was definitely a step down.

I saw an interview a few days ago about his upcoming album. DJ Premier and Pete Rock are lined up for it (very encouraging).

i was actually surprised by how little primo was involved in that album but all in all the album is more to the positive with a couple of classic tracks like holy are you and euphoria and many other good tracks.

I don't deny it had some nice tracks, but even Rakim can't always outweigh what he's laced with. The next album will hopefully have more of that sound from "The 18th Letter".

Since he was on the album, how do you feel about Maino?

What's your top 5 favorite Budden songs?

In no order, I gotta go with:
Dumb Out
Walk With Me
Are You In That Mood Yet?
10 Minutes
Stand Up Nucca

HM:
Sidetracked
Unforgiven
Whatever It Takes
Pray For Me
Dear Diary
In The Air(Rest in Peace)
Black Cloud
Broken Wings

My top 5 changes but it's usually between these 13 or so tracks.

I'm going to check a friend in a few, he's going to introduce me to some pro tools. I need time to make this list, I'll try to get one posted by tonight.

I was very impressed with you list, there will definitely be many similarities between our song choices.

Yeah, it took me a little while, lol. I used my play count in Winamp to help.

I think Dumb Out was the song that got me into Budden.

And yeah, Pray for Me(both versions) is dope. I'm probably forgetting a few also I'm sure.

Edit: like the Intro to Escape Route(with the Requiem for a Dream beat), forgot that. Never Again, State of You from Escape Route also. Damn it's hard to narrow down.

A top 5 Budden list is quite difficult (I might try and narrow down later on). These are ones off my head which stand out, but ask me on another day and you'd see some variation:

Dumb Out
Roll Call
Through The Wire
State of You
World Keep Spinnin
Pray For Me
Just To Be Different
Secrets
All of Me
If I Die Tomorrow
Sidetracked
Aftermath
Stand Up Nucca
Anti

Nice list, seems like we have a good amount of songs in common. I like World Keeps Spinnin alot too, I probably should have listed that.

And yeah, if you never got into Budden, I would recommend youtubing some of the songs we listed, starting with Dumb Out.

I just decided to break it down by album. I tried to take the top 3 songs from each album.

Joe Budden
Stand Up Nucca
Calm Down
10 Mins

Mood Muzik: The Worst Of Joe Budden
Through The Wire
Walk With Me
Sing For The Moment

Mood Muzik 2: Can It Get Any Worse?
Are You In That Mood Yet
Old School Mouse
Stained

Mood Muzik 3: For Better or for Worse
Ventilation
Invisible Man
Long Way To Go
Thou Shall Not Fall

Escape Route
Anti
Good Enough
Clothes On A Mannequin

Padded Room
Blood On The Wall (This song was amazing live)
Happy Holidays
Pray For Me

Mood Muzik 4: A Turn 4 The Worst
Role Reversal
Welcome To Real Life
Black Cloud

Mood Muzik 4.5: The Worst Is Yet To Come
Downfall
When It all Implodes

Other
Broken Wings
Better Me
Dumb Out

I'll try to shorten the list some day. I just wouldn't feel right leaving out most of those tracks and I still feel like I missed a few.

You're the man for that. I have the album, just wasn't sure how many people were familiar with it.

Halfway House
Better Me
Under The Sun
Just To Be Different
Check Me Out (Edit) I can't help myself, sorry

P.S. I saw an old friend from high school today, he's been messing with beats for 5+ years. It was an amazing learning experience, I never really had someone break down beats and all the terms for me. I'm hoping to start messing around with my pro tools and hopefully sharing a few track with you guys. I'm hoping to catch up with him again in the next couple of weeks. I just need a drum pad controller for my plug ins, he was kind enough to bless me with a few new ones.

His entire collection on my desk. I was surprised to find a "Halfway House" CD, since it's such a rare album.

On those beats, I'll be keen to hear what you can produce. Like I said before, you've clearly got the drive for it.

This 3 part track never made any of his mixtapes / albums, but it's still well worth a listen. Whether you are a fan of Budden or not, you'll take something from it.

EDIT: Another track that slipped my mind (not on any releases) that deserves a mention. His style is so similar to Jay-Z on this one.

Ali, I don't understand your dislike for Budden after going back and making my list. I don't feel many rappers can offer as much emotion/passion and skill. Not sure what more you can ask for from Budden.

Adnyana, you've made me feel like less of a Budden fan Sad

Budden is between that line of being appreciated by the real hip hop fans but not appreciated by everyone.....

He is pretty much full on underground so its harder for people to appreciate him unless you listen to all his tracks.....

I get the feeling some people rate certain rappers on a pedestal because others rate them and have not actually listened to thier whole catalogue to give a honest opinion.....

Disclaimer: not aimed at anyone here just a general thing i have picked up over the years.....

Listening to alot of Wu Solo albums and Southern Hip Hop recently.

There's def. no dislike for Budden here, boy is crazy, I like him the most of all Slaughterhouse!

And I said it before privately, I'd bang his tapes, I just can't constantly bang them, out of the 250 songs I have (random example) I can only constantly listen to about 60 (again random example) whilst if I dug up my Lloyd Banks catalog (not comparing rapper to rapper, giving a random example) I can bang around 210/250 (random example).

I love Budden no one get me wrong but I just don't love him as much as you do ! Very Happy

BTW: Lloyd Banks : Hunger For More 2 > Recovery, album of the year 2010.

Budden is an introvert, so those same types can easily connect and relate to more of his music. Ali admits to being an extrovert, the "life of the party", so I can see why he might not like the "Anti" and "Just to be Different" style of tracks (or not as much as we do).
