CNN reporting that FBI, etc. were aware of risk and were coordinating with Capitol Hill... but they can't do anything unless asked. They weren't asked until after the riots had already reached the doors of Congress.

There are so many Republicans in Congress who not only aided Trump in this massive misinformation campaign that led up to this, but willingly staked their political images on getting this election overturned when they knew it was impossible. This is what should happen. But it won't. I have no faith in Democrats' ability to seize this moment and crystalize it into a lockout of Republicans from positions of power for the foreseeable future.

Not all republicans are crazy, fanatic rednecks. I think a good portion of them were appaled by what they saw yesterday. If my assumption is right, republicans as a party are in deep sh*t come next years which is a good thing. They'll have to rebuild from scratch to be competitive again.

Democrats on the other hand should try to bring "people together" again to get a stronghold for years to come. No more splitting into meaningless pitiful factions should be the motto.

Republicans should not be locked out of power. These people need a voice, and if they don't have one they will resort to violence again, and the next time it will be better planned and more effective. What Biden should do is elevate the moderate wing of the republican party by giving them a few calculated wins so that they once again have more sway than the right-wing nuts. That way the US democracy will be healthier.
