Re: UCL: Real Madrid vs Inter Milan
Even if we advance, I genuinely don’t think this is our year for anything. I’ll be more than happy if we somehow manage to retain the title in this depleted league, but I honestly don’t fancy our chances against anyone.
Might sound pessimistic, yet even when I try to think optimistically, the only lifeline I can think of is some absurd brilliance caused by Vinicius’ element of unpredictability or... Ramos!
Our league position may suggest otherwise, but we lack penetration, urgency, and even defensive solidity. I’ll be praying to the god of luck, Zidane that all of our future opponent teams hit the crossbar 19/20 times, and their goalkeepers accidentally pass the ball to Ramos.

I agree I do not think we have enough to win the UCL this season. However, not making it out of the group stage would be a monumental failure.

Vinicius has been great and such a force everytime he gets the ball. He just needs to be more consistent and not make dumb decisions

Re: UCL: Real Madrid vs Inter Milan
Casemiro is badly out of form. Product of not having a back up for 6 years
Mendy is very overrated. Just like Varane this guy relies on his speed but is also vety physical unlike Varane
We should get Reguillon back to play on that left side
Asensio as usual predictable. Lucas was playing as a RB and RW. Too bad our RW options are dire

Odegaard looking good in these opening minutes
The team is playing really well. Needs that second goal to second goal to build confidence.
Team is playing with a little anxiousness

Nacho has been phenomenal
Hazard and Odegaard really need to believe in their own abilities to shoot. Their first instinct is to pass. So frustrating

I just missed the first half. I thought Ødegaard shook off his hesitation to shoot back at Herenveen. I see we’re one goal up. How have we been performing?

Odegaard always looks for the pass first. I like that.
Hazard just need to build his confidence back up. He is a little cautious, doesn't want to do anything to risky.
Kroos is playing like a true quarter back. Dictating the game.

Inter play right into our hands with their style. They’re 100% reliant on their wingbacks.

Re: UCL: Real Madrid vs Inter Milan
Conte has absolutely destroyed Hakimi
Inter play very predictably. They always play the ball to Lukaku hoping he could bring others in by holding on to the ball.
If Conte really wants to use that 352 he really needs to get them to play a style of football that doesn't involve them just playing long balls to their forwards

The fact that Nacho had a great game against Inter says it all

I’m pretty sure he played well in one of our past games against Bayern Munich, off the top of my head. I feel like he’s heavily criticized whenever he plays poorly, and mostly taken for granted when he plays well.
He’s a sub who doesn’t mind waiting several months for a chance to play, so I’ve never really expected much from him. If anything, he threw away a potentially promising career by opting to be a sporadically used, bench alternative for us through the majority of his 20s, as opposed to joining a club that would allow him to become a regular starter and find some resemblance of rhythm and form.

Re: UCL: Real Madrid vs Inter Milan
We always start the season wirh Lucas as fifth choice but he always ends up being the starting RW by the end of it. Tells you all about our RW choices lol
So what do we think of the midfield now that Casemiro is back. I really want to see Odegaard start but i really like all the other 3 midfielders. Modric is playing really well right now i am not going to lie

Lucas Vasquez may not be the best player, but he loves the club. He plays with so much passion.
I'm really starting appreciate what he brings. A real team player. Always full of energy.
He worked really hard yesterday. He was great.

Hala, there always going to be lots of rotation in midfield. With Valverde out of squad for now and Isco looking to leave in January that means Odegaard gets plenty of action.

Do you guys realize you are now praising the two squad guys that most of you were insisting had to go?

From his performance yesterday, he deserves the praise.
Like you said he is a squad player, not a starter. The team still needs someone with more quality on the right to start.
But Zidane likes Lucas because he works defensively and he gives all he can while attacking.

Re: UCL: Real Madrid vs Inter Milan
no argument. Both of them are exactly what you want in squad players. I get the complains when Lucas or Nacho start, especially when they are starting over more promising players, but many of these GL posters were saying both had to go, i.e. leave the squad!
As I have said many times, this year is all about evaluations and at end of day. some of the promising players will be gone and new "starters" will come in. But then, you have to fill out the squad either with solid backups or squad players. So why get rid of the two solid squad players you have?

Re: UCL: Real Madrid vs Inter Milan
I agree with you, Bill. I believe I made the same argument several years ago. We can complain about our fringe players all we want, but if they’re starting, then they’re not the problem.
As for Modric, and Marcelo for that matter. a couple of good performances doesn’t change the fact that their respective levels of consistency have been below par since around the time when Modric won the golden ball.

Re: UCL: Real Madrid vs Inter Milan
I've said Vasquez should leave.
Because another player who has a lot more quality can take his place in the squad.
But it's tough to find players with his passion for the club and the required quality.
The team can't be filled with sexy footballers, but players with grit and toughness.
Look at Vinicius, yesterday, he came on and was really poor. Poor in terms of his decision making and passing. Players like him need to show more than just glimpses of talent. Because the Lucas Vasquez types, who are always consistent, will overtake them.
