In fairness the VAR check on the Sevilla penalty took a while.

True. Still dont think 6 minutes was legit, but I did forget that.

Perhaps a little bitter because in our game the referee took over 3 minutes to fix his mic due to the rain and they had the cheek to put up 4 minutes added time.

I was annoyed because you guys scored a deflected goal in the final minute. That's it. Laughing

I'd be less salty about it had Kroos stuck it in the top corner.

Real is gonna have a lot of rebuilding to do as their key players continue to age, the young players just arent there yet.

Rakitic - thank u so much, see how happy he was after he scored, Barca legend for me, love u~ Respect Razz

Zidane's incredile luck a few years ago was also not there anymore, back then that Militao pen would not have been given, or maybe Flo doesnt have the money to bribe the refs anymore Very Happy

This whole handball debacle

First of, It hitMilitaoon the shoulder before touching his arm. Second the ball wouldve fallen to a RM player anyways secondly, this was somehow a penalty but the clear penalty against Atleti was not. These referees are some of theworst referees i have ever witnessed in my life

Wait, you think that wasnt a penalty on Militao? Laughing

How can you think that?

His hand was in a completely unnatural position and it struck it.

It is irrelevant where it landed first or where it was going next.

Because it didn't hit his hand directly.

There's two options. It either hit a Sevilla player's hand first, or it hit Militao's shoulder first before it his hand.
It's hard to see on replay, but one thing is for sure, it was deflected onto his hand with no time to react. And I don't think it's a penalty if it's deflected onto a hand with no chance of removing it.

That way it's not intentional. I don't see how his arm being out there is unnatural. Try jumping without flailing with your arms. It's not possible, and that's why it's natural.

Here the rule: - It is a handball offence if a player:

  • deliberately touches the ball with their hand/arm, for example moving the hand/arm towards the ball;
  • touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised; or
  • scores in the opponents’ goal:
directly from their hand/arm, even if accidental, including by the goalkeeper; or
immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental.

I think that the rule makes it not a penalty because of this quote
"have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation"
I think the movement is very justifiable for anyone who's ever jumped up for a header. The arms create the momentum.

I mean again, the fact it didn't hit his hand first is irrelevant. If penalties are only given for handballs in which the defender intentionally used his hand, there would be alot less penalties.

This falls into the category of unintentional but if your hand is in a position it should not be, your responsible.

Now, I have some sympathy because yes you need your arms to jump. I have argued this forever. But we are not even talking about that, this isnt the entire context.

Militao cannot see the ball, he has jumped, spins and ends up with his back towards the ball with his arm out. If it hits his hand in this situation, it is completely on him.

He doesnt jump to defend an aerial ball correctly, he has decided it was a good ideal to twirl midair because he wasnt quite sure where the ball was going.

I dont see what argument there can be. He has jumped in a very strange way to defend a ball and it ended up hitting his hand.

I can honestly say this has nothing to do with it being Madrid, this to me is an obvious penalty. You cannot jump in the air, spin around and it hits your arm and then say you have been done wrong. It is not justifiable as you have said, you do not jump to defend aerial balls in this way.

I wouldn't have called it in real life, when playing with my team. No one wants a handball that graces the arm off a deflection.

If anyone tried calling that in a game without a ref they'd be laughed at. And that fouls like that is deciding the game now is just tiresome.

I'm just so tired of these handballs getting awarded all over. I feel like it's a complete misinterpretation of the spirit of the handball law.

Nothing about that handball gives Real Madrid a direct advantage really. It's was unintentional and he used his arms for balance, albeit I agree the jump was reckless. But so is every Militao movement, he's such a personification of controlled chaos.

I understand and on some level agree. When I play in random games, I wouldn't want this to be a pen either and your right that if someone tried to call it a pen without a ref they'd be laughed at as we move on.

But in the pro game this is a pen. In youth football, this is a pen. In an amateur game (if seen) this is a pen.

I dont know if I want things like this to be a pen, but it is what it is. Unless the rules are fixed, this and other lesser "crimes" are indeed a pen.

Your right, there is no direct advantage to Madrid for his handball. But once he jumps and spins midair, I dont think you cant defend it. He has semi-committed to the jump and it seems once he has lost the flight of the ball he has span to protect himself and in doing so has no control over where his arm will go.

In EPL a ball that hits another body part before hitting the arm would not be called a penalty. In fact it wouldn't in any respectable league. The referee explained it away as his arm being in an unnatural position which is besides the point. He neither did it to get an advantage nor prohihited a clear goalscoring opportunity.

My biggest gripe isn't even this penalty call it's the fact that these are called randomly. You can never really create a pattern. In the game against Atleti for example the ref looked at the monitor saw the handball and saw Casemiro behind ready to boot the ball into the net and came back and said it was "unintentional" despite it preventing a clear goalscoring opportunity. Against Betis the handball did not even go to VAR. I have at least 2 more examples of handballs of opposition players that have not been called.

This whole handball rule in Spain needs to be changed but Tebas and the likes are covering their ears and are convinced that there is no problem in the Spanish League. It's frustrating

I believe the team that deserves to win La Liga will win it. And I think that team is Real Madrid. They have been bad, but they have been superior to Atlético and Barça.

We (RM Fans) are basing this decision on the penalty that was not called for us vs Atletico Madrid, a game which ended in a draw. The circumstances were the same if not more in our favor, yet the ref gave an explanation that it wasn't intentional and that usual BS.

So to put it short, if that handball vs Atletico wasn't a penalty, the Militao one shouldn't be either.

Real Madrid is having an injury crisis and we're physically burnt out. What's Barcelona's excuse for not winning their games? Wild season this year's La Liga. Honestly can't say who's gonna win.

I don't want to rule Real Madrid out of the title race but .. Too many injuries and it seems the cl elimination is in fact living rent free in our minds as it shows in our play.
