Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
It's a joke how we don't have access to La liga on TV anymore.
Wish Sky had just paid more to keep the rights.
Also wish la liga was more marketable.

The Numpetegui era is off and running with a goal from Reguilon.
This front line of Nolito-De Jong-Ocampos has the touch of the donkeys about it, tbh.

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
La Liga is marketable just their internal political system and inability to understand the bigger picture outside of the country, Tebas being quite the dinosaur does not help that matter.
The attributes are all there to market, like a dormant brand waiting to be exposed, sadly it will not happen with this current board.

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
What happened was that Eleven Sports overbid to secure the rights last season, during a time where Sky are paying out the arse for the Premier League to prevent BT from getting more games. La Liga had its niche on Sky as something people could watch in the evening after the PL was done, and Barca/Madrid were always a decent draw.
Problem was, Eleven Sports made it all online subscription based. People could pay out for a Sky sub and get the PL and La Liga (plus a load of other sports) for the same price, but now they had to pay out for a Sky sub plus £50 for an Eleven Sports sub. La Liga isn't attractive enough for people to pay out, unless you're someone like me who watches a lot of it anyway.
Eleven Sports made a mess out of it, too. They didn't realise that the Saturday blackout between 14:45 and 17:15 applied to every football match broadcast in the UK, so all those La Liga and Serie A games kicking off at 15:00/15:15 couldn't be broadcast. They were supposed to have their games on TV, too, but failed to agree a deal for that. In the end, the TV rights ended up with ITV, who showed one game every Sunday plus highlights.
It seems now that ITV are going to try and get the games. They've got three games now, again one per week, plus highlights. ITV haven't got the muscle to show multiple games a weekend but they're free-to-air, which might help draw viewers. Better them than Premier Sports, yet another new sub-based channel desperate for content.

Are you serious? How could an organization with enough money to secure La Liga rights not know this? That's an insane mistake. wtf

Yup. They disagreed with the rule but backed down on it eventually.

The rule itself is a separate debate, but straight up breaking the rules early days isn't the best thing to do.

No matter how this ends, Regi is man of the match and looks like he is gonna be something (really) good for Sevilla.

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
Reguilon is one of the least subtle full backs I've seen for a while. Very much a head down and charge kind-of player, who I'm sure the fans will take to quickly. Offers something more direct than Escudero.
Meanwhile, there's De Jong shuffling around like a zombie. Not the most impressive of debuts.
Joan Jordan looks like a gem already.

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
Reguillon from the moment he made his first team debut has always showed how nothing could faze him, he looks better than defenders who have been in the game for decades. Blew Marcelo out of the water. Along with Vini definitely the revelation of last season. He is faaar more defensively solid than Escudero. Sevilla might actually have a chance against Barca now. Who do Sevilla have apart from DeJong now that all their strikers have left?

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
Manus Dabbur, who banged them in playing for RB Salzburg but wasn't in the squad today for some reason. There's Munir as well, but I think he's going to end up on the flank more than anything.
I haven't see much of Dabbur, but De Jong seems a poor choice already. He doesn't replace Ben Yedder's quickness and tight control, and doesn't even hold the ball up or run the channels as well as Andre Silva did.

Getafe is really just a less talented Atletico. Also, Trippier looking great out there, motm performance along with Savic tbh.

Atleti can have Ronaldo, Messi, Maradona and Pele and they'll still just 1-0 their way to victories. Felix with a flop performance in the opening game and injured to boot.

those who run la liga have never ever known a thing about marketing. and the potential has always been there, and its not a new thing, its been that way for over 20 years. the primary saving grace has been Real madrid and barcelona. it's why i get mad when other clubs complain about equal tv rights. there have been exciting derbies that have nothing to do with real and barca, that the league has never ever taken advantage of

Reguilon in tears as he's forced off with a head injury.

Funny how Díaz seemed to be the more bloodied one after the challenge but he continued to play just fine.

I see the Lopetegui Restoration Project is going along nicely...unless Granada get a jammy goal after this post.

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
Second game in a row that Lopetegui has shut up shop once Sevilla were a goal up. And so far, there's a lot less sterile possession and greater willingness to cross or play a direct pass. Maybe he's learned a thing or two after his sacking last season?
Either way, Sevilla winning two away games without conceding is a great start. Diego Carlos was excellent in defence tonight. Top performer next to Fernando and Jordan.
The front three worked hard but I don't see the quality yet. Maybe when Rony Lopes starts playing it'll look better.
