Re: Kubo and the 2 strings
Journalists reporting that Kubo has impressed the coaching staff and players.
Here is a clip of him interacting with Hazard (his spanish is great) and some clips from training (0:55)
His profile is very similar to Odegaard imo but he seems more gritty than him at the same age.

So basically, he is better than the Ø. Agreed. Thimmy, take your little brother elsewhere please, Nick was correct after all.

Watched the training session with Kubo, he looks really good. Very quick with the ball and good technique.

4.6 million views in 15 hours marketing masterclass indeed by Flo. He looked good too playing out of position in that disjointed team, great business getting him on a free.

Re: Kubo and the 2 strings
Not sure about that. But I would like to see both on 1st team in a few years.
One thing that I read that I don't understand re Kubo is that in order for him to become considered a Spaniard (to not need one of the import quotas) it will take 10 years whereas with the Brazilians and Argentines it's 5 years? Does anyone know if that is true and if so why the difference?
This quota is an item of concern for these potential stars on 1st team. We are allowed only 3 and they are currently occupied by Militao, Vinicius and Rodrygo. In the wings for a spot is Reiner and Kubo (and LOL, possibly Bale (depending on final outcome details of Brexit)). In other words neither Reiner nor Kubo can make it to the first team in near term future unless something happens with the 3 incumbents.

Re: Kubo and the 2 strings
I believe he will always occupy a non EU spot regardless since Japan doesn't allow dual citizenship and i don't see him renouncing his Japanese citizenship.

Re: Kubo and the 2 strings
Meh. That he would probably displace most of our current players on the right wing is a testament to how fucked up our situation is.
Shitty news with Odegaard, apparently he's suffering from patellar tendinopathy on his right knee that could become quite serious.

Re: Kubo and the 2 strings
Ok Nick I have dug out the answer. Bottom line is system is extremely complicated and fraught with glaring preferences, especially for talented players.
Normally it takes 10 years of residence in Spain to be able to apply. However to get citizenship, besides having permanent continual residence in Spain and in order paperwork, you have to renounce your home country citizenship. Given what was stated above re Japan, this is why Kubo will likely always need an import quota spot.
Next is 5 years for refugees. And I think it used to be the case for our futbol players as I know Marcelo for example had to wait 5 years.
Then there is 2 years for people from latin America and a 4 other countries. And in this case you get a dual citizenship. This is the rule they used for Casemiro and Valverde. Apparently Vinicius is now hitting the 2 year mark and club has asked him to take the exam (Jan 2021) to be able to free up a spot for either Reiner or Kubo. You can expect club to follow similar path for both Militao and Rodrygo in another year.
(Glad to have provided this service for you Nick)

Another goal
I'm sold. Start him over Vinicius. We have an Asian superstar in our hands. Perez is just licking his lips on how much money Kubo will make in the Asian market

Re: Kubo and the 2 strings
He is a prospect. It sounds like he is playing well as he did at Mallorca, but you also need to be aware this is a youth tournament. You can’t ignore the fact that he couldn’t get any starter action on inferior teams on two different teams. He still needs development (as do Vinicius and Rodrygo for that matter) and there issue of a import spot, given the three spots are currently taken by Militao, Rodrygo and Vinicius.

Re: Kubo and the 2 strings
i'd like to see a player play consistent and very good quality top flight football before hyping them. we do this all the time, hype a youngster and place enormous aspirations on them, when for whatever reason it doesnt work out we throw em under the bus
thats whats happening to ode. u sign a kid at 15, rather than let him be a kid, u throw so much hype on him and tell him to play with the youth side but train with the pros; so now u've increased that air of arrogance surrounding him. when u now try and be realistic and say "dude maybe u need to sit on the bench, for more accomplished players", he cant wrap his head around that, cos he was given all that hype and false sense of stardom....
cant be surprised then that he would rather another spell away. i'd relax with the hype, its not like its mbappe at monaco

Re: Kubo and the 2 strings
Sort of a youth tournament. This is u23 which means, you needed be under 23 when the qualifications started so when the tournament comes along, you have quite a number of guys in their mid 20s. And of course, you're allowed to bring a certain number of older players along.
It's honestly a pretty good tournament to find out if you can manage playing at a certain level and Kubo is kinda showing that which is cool.

Re: Kubo and the 2 strings
There is no competition between Vini and Kubo because Vini himself is no competition. Kubo should already be ahead of Vini in the pecking order
