Biggest flops of the season
Who do you think were the biggest flops of the 17-18 season?
From the Premier League at least...
Renato Sanches - From signing for Bayern to flopping at Swansea in less than two years is some achievement. Have Bayern ever wasted money as bad as on Sanches?
Peter Cech - Looks like age finally caught up with him. Will he be Arsenal's number 1 next season?
David Luiz - I don't even know has he been injured all this time or just pissed Conte off? What happened?
Several other Chelsea players like Bakayoko, Pedro, Morata.
Nathan Redmond - Used to be promising, one goal this season after seven the previous season.

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Andre Gray was signed for a club record for Watford at the start of the season and scored like 5 goals in 30+ apps, guess he counts.

Kolasinac looked bright early on in the season going forward and then just disappeared completely, was he injured? ostracized? have heard nothing about him for months.

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Serie A:
-Belotti: followed up his 26 goals last season with 10 this season. Sort of picked it up in 2018 after a poor start
-Nani: WHEW, what a signing. If you're an attacker and can't function with Inzaghi managing, it's time to call it
-Kalinic: I don't think [m]any expected him to light it up, but this guy absolutely sucks
-Andre Silva: this season's Joao Mario and Renato Sanches, not much else to say. He's young but the price tag is just too much
-Caicedo: see Kalinic but this guy, even as a backup striker just consistently let Lazio down from what I've seen
There's probably many more but these players stand out off the top of my head

In Serie A:
Andre Silva has to be number 1.
Kalinic
If he counts, Monchi.
Nani although he had no hype.
The Korean Messi from Barca that failed at Verona.

Hard to name Caicedo as one of the flops since everyone knew he was shit from the beginning

Re: Biggest flops of the season
10 goals for Belotti ffs, I had heard he was doing bad but that's awful
Torino saying they wanted 80m last summer ffs, just proof teams need to calma with players that dont have multiple seasons of performances under their belt @United

I just feel like if he was marginally better, Lazio would've had the top 4 wrapped up a long time ago

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Categorizing Monchi as a flop is harsh. Afterall this was Roma's best season in like years and he had a hand in appointing EDF too. Sure half his signings have flopped but its premature to label him as a flop. Schick was the big money signing but i think its too soon to write him off as he's one for the future. He signed Under too who has been one of the brightest young players in Serie A this term. Overall its been a mixed bag but definitely not as worse as say, Mirabelli's 400M team of flops.

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Monchi flopped very hard this season. EDF was already on the line before he was appointed.
Schick, Karsdorp, Moreno, Deffrel, Gonalons, Johnathan Silva, selling Palmieri.
Look at that list ffs. Milan actually signed less flops than Roma did, it's just that Roma already had a great team

21 appearances, 2 goals and would cost Roma upwards of 20 mil, yup, Schick flopped this season. Definitely.

Except Schick and to a lesser extent Karsdorp(who i believe is injured ?), most of them have been signed for little to no money.
Again , i think too soon to write Schick off. He has shown promise in spurts and i think he will surely be given another season.
Under looks like a player who they could sell for 80-100M in 2 or 3 years time and thats a lot of revenue for a club like Roma.
Compare that too Mirabelli spending 70M on Silva and Kalinic. Conti was signed for 30M who is out for another half a year i presume(?). Mussachio is a flop too who was signed for 20M. Thats a lot of money compared to Roma's budget. And Mirabelli's on the verge of being sacked.
Roma atleast have a future with Monchi unlike Milan with Mirabelli.

He was injured and then benched by Monreal. Not a flop.

@Rincon wasn't Karsdorp injured in the opening game or two for the entire season, not a flop IMO

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Why did Morata flop/Why is he flopping at Chelsea?
Is he not a good fit for the team? Is it just because Chelsea have had a crappy season overall?

Re: Biggest flops of the season
Monreal was by far our best player that season, of course that also says something about the rest of our team and play this season in general, but he really was outstanding for a good stretch of the season.
So no, Kolasinac isn't a flop, at least not as of yet.

As I was trying to explain before Chelsea signed him.
He's not that good.

He won't ever be good enough to be the starter for a big team, I don't think he will ever be the type to be the main goalscorer for any team either and that was his expected role at Chelsea..nothing in his entire career has suggested he was built to be that. Too high of an expectation placed on him IMO. No shame in being a good option off the bench for a decent team. Which is likely what he will end up being ironically as for the money he cost and earns nobody will take him from Chelsea.

Just wanna mention although I dont know why Im always harsh on a former Barca player, but never rated Pedro that highly, felt he over performed at Chelsea for a long while, this season perhaps his true level

That actually makes him a real contender for flop of the season.

It was, a tough battle between Inter and Roma to sign him at the end of the window
I can't believe I forgot him, he fooled me the most. Looked unreal at Sampdoria

Re: Biggest flops of the season
I recall Juve fans, at least a bunch of them, wanting to sign him too, anyway I say give him another season before we completely write him off as an absolute flop. Of course this season he ranks near the top too.
Honestly IMO Alexis has to be a strong contender too, was meh at Arsenal and looks horrific for us, I wish we kept Mkhi - who I don't even rate that highly either.
A lot of these flops at least have some resell value but we're stuck with Sanchez until he's in diapers ffs
