2017/18 - year of the frauds
What's going on this season? Almost every big money move for the big clubs has been a flop or regressed to a huge extent from the season before, off the top of my head;
Kalinic
Bonucci
Sanchez
Tolisso
Lacazette
Dembele
Mbappe
Morata
Coutinho
Merino
Lukaku
Balde Diao
Solanke
Bernardeschi
Patrik Shitck
Diego Costa
Laporte (not played much but looks shite so far)
Kessie
Silva
You may disagree with a few names but it's still a fact that a lot of these lads are massively under-performing to expectations and the excuse of youth only applies for a few of them if you want to go that route
that's just transfers too, the list of 'top players' that are performing at a low level compared to the standard they set last season would probably be double.
I think it's clear looking at that list that top teams are signing players too quickly nowadays, after just 6 months of decent to good form. The only big signings I can think of that have been successes so far are Salah and Matic.
Don't @ me if you're angry I mentioned a player you're fond of. I told no lies.

Re: 2017/18 - year of the frauds
Agree with the thread, disagree with Bernardeschi. What did he do wrong? the kid has more G+A than Mandzukic, Cuadrado and Costa in a fraction of minutes plus he plays great all around. He is just injured, he's been one of our standout guys. If you want to include one from Juve, its Pjaca.
Schick is a huge one. Had the heart condition going on and then the injury but he just disappeared even after returning to play.
Banter aside this is a big one. I've said it before in the Juve section. Almost none of the youngster deserve to be signed so quickly by big teams. It just became a cycle that you either jump the gun and sign them, or you end up paying 10 times the price after a season.
Pretty much exactly what happened to us and Bentancur. We had to sign just so we could do it cheap in the case that he turned out big. He's been good but he shouldn't be with us, should be in a smaller team getting more minutes.

Re: 2017/18 - year of the frauds
Bernardeschi is no fraud mate
Rest of the list looks decent though
Did you intentionally leave out Bakayoko? One of the worst signings of all time surely

Forgot all about Bakayoko tbh. Certainly the worst signing this season. 2017/18 Renato Sanches.

Re: 2017/18 - year of the frauds
I think what makes Bakayoko especially poor is letting Matic go to United too, sucks every way you look at it
What about the 56 fullbacks City signed, how are they doing? I know its hard to pick out flops in their squad because they're really good but still, Danilo mate?
Mendy is class but I understand he got hurt early on, kind of unfair

Re: 2017/18 - year of the frauds
Mendy's basically been injured the entire season so the verdict's still out. Danilo is terrible though..the thing is everyone expected him to be, it's just that the fee they paid for him was pretty high IIRC. Not really sure I'd call him a flop based on that - but the pricetag attached kinda makes him one I guess. Same with Lindelof. but 25m is a standard depth signing in the PL. Look at Chelsea with Drinkwater lol.

Re: 2017/18 - year of the frauds
Laporte looks a thousand times better than that scrub Lindelof who you seemed to have forgotten about. How can somebody look so smug and yet be so $hit. According to Redcafe he's so terrible he makes the Pogba signing look good.
Ederson's brilliance last season masking this absolute turd.

Re: 2017/18 - year of the frauds
one of them was a depth signing that cost 25m, the other cost 65m and people forget he even exists. Lindelof is shite but he isn't a flop because nobody expected anything from him. Similar to Danilo. But if you want I can meet you in the middle and agree that all three of them are shite.

Not even close. Laporte has seamlessly integrated himself into the Premier's league best defensive unit and even Danilo has played better than Lindelof (dont @ me.....whoscored is your daddy).

Re: 2017/18 - year of the frauds
You're clutching at straws with many of those names.
Coutinho has had few games, Dembele the same, Lacazette deserves more time (although I'm not optimistic about him, Giroud was probably better), Morata was never going to live up to the price tag, Solanke hasn't really played and Mbabbe and Costa have been rather good - while "top" Serie A signings are so-so whether they should be taken seriously anyway.
