Re: Best of 2016
I'll do my top 10 films in middle February right before or after the Oscars, by that point I probably still wouldn't have seen Silence, Fences and Moonlight.
TV Series:
1. Narcos - incredibly consistent. Even better than the first season. Every episode had quality suspense and importance, and it felt like it always ended on a cliffhanger. Wagner Moura was a masterclass again. And I even began to like the American lead, Boyd Holbrook more.
2. Atlanta - took a few episode to really get going and realise you are watching a unique artist's work at work. Danny Glover is incredible as both actor and writer. The one of a kind off-beat humour gets better as the season progresses, as does the drama angle around Earn's (Glover) life.
3. Westworld - coming in I think we all expected much of this, and it didn't disappoint. I think though in terms of how detailed and meticulous this was, it surprised us all a bit. It isn't wow, like Game of Thrones was when it started. But it is top class quality in many aspects, especially the performances from the actors.

Haven't seen La La land or Silence though. 2016 had a lot of movies on the same 7.5-8.0 level tbh. Arrival was the only standout for me along with Rogue one.

Same here. I need to update that list I posted as well. I feel like this year has been like one of the least in terms of movies I have seen. Thats basically it, the ones I have posted.

Re: Best of 2016
Was Game of Thrones really that great this year?
Thinking back, I can only think of the Hodor moment which was epic, and the well-directed battle of the basterds.

The final was also epic. It was inconsistent but when it was great it was the GOAT

This. GoT was meh for me too. Inconsistent storylines, big plot holes. Direction was brilliant. Some particular sequences were epic. But thats about it. I miss the GoT that stayed true to the source material, the brilliance of the 1st 4 seasons.

Re: Best of 2016
Doubt Martin would ever write some of those sequences the way they showed in the show (dat Arya arc for example). Felt they wanted to make it all of a sudden Hollywoodish with cringy Terminator style chase scenes and shadow fights.

Re: Best of 2016
GoT was obviously shit this season. Like really pleb show quality.
Best 2016 TV show was Westworld I think. Not sure which shows have been released this year but looking at the lists in here it's clearly on top. I'd say something like:
Westworld
Black Mirror
Stranger Things
Maybe something like that but I still need to watch a few shows.
Really didn't play enough games. Blood and Wine is obviously on top but that's about it.
I sound a lot more negative than I am IMO

Even the good shows for me this year were B+ tier. Stranger Things, Night Of, WestWorld (let down by some meh slow paced eps early on IMO)
Need to get around to Narcos eventually

Black mirror was just as, if not more, inconsistent and it still makes it pretty high on people's lists

The whole show has become more hollywood with each season, didn't happen suddenly.

Can agree with that. No show (or movie btw) came close to blowing me away. But I have very high hopes for 2017.

Agreed, imo Black Mirror had 2 great episodes and the other four were meh.
I think our standards has gone up rather than the quality of TV shows going down, we've been spoiled by great shows that has been released in recent years.

Re: Best of 2016
Watched Captain America: Civil War again, and shame on me for having to confirm how great I thought it was on first watch. I couldn't believe that a Marvel movie could be as high on my year-end list, but it deserves to be. 5/5 movie, don't think Marvel will ever top it.
In addition, I would say it is my favourite movie of 2016 thus far, can only see La La Land and/or Manchester By the Sea beating it.
