I'm obviously not comparing the two coaches based on their credentials. My only point was that Di Matteo won the biggest trophy under less favourable circumstances, yet we all know that it doesn't necessarily mean that he's a great coach. It seems to me that you're arguing that trophies = GOAT, regardless of the circumstances. Also, I'm definitely not a fan of claiming that someone is GOAT, based on their performance over a short period of time. I know a lot of people on here are, though. Can't tell whether it's banter or sincerity sometimes

Re: Zinedine Zidane Appreciation Thread
I think they main thing about him is hes done the thing thats always been the hardest at Real - getting all the stars to together to work hard for the good of the team, including defending well. I dont think Ive seen Real ever so together and each and every player working so hard, and not just hard but playing smart as well. U see Ronaldo trying to set up other players even.
Its not just having the best players and attacking, on top of that, in the recent games espcially, u see Kroos and Modric roaming all around, even into the back line to escape the pressing from other teams, help defending so the FBs can push forward obviously, but so far back Casemiro was actually much farther in front. But then u also see them on the other hand press as a unit so quickly when they are bossing. Also the subs coming and being so efficient. They are just so flexible and smart in doing all these things. This must be down to Zidane and his teams work. Of course not to mention all the man management skills and other stuff.
Some managers tried to see some of these things, but none of them managed to do so many things and pulling them all off. So huge praise to Zidane...never thought he would be this good at managing.

Well said, I think that basically sums the season up!

Re: Zinedine Zidane Appreciation Thread
Well Madrid doesn't need much more do they?
They have the individual quality to overwhelm all other teams. He had to get them to buy into his ideas, and the players did. Great man manager, and quite frankly that's what Real needs. Obviously that's easier said than done, when dealing with a team full of superstars (just ask Benitez) so big credit to him.
In the rare chance Madrid goes trophyless next season, I wonder if Flo will stick with him.

He should. There is no one better for us, he's not a tactical genius, but has the support of the players, we learnt our lesson (i would like to think) when we got rid of Carlo, although Zidane has been way better than him,

Re: Zinedine Zidane Appreciation Thread
Besides getting the position right, Madrid have excellent timing, too. They do not randomly pump crosses into the box, hoping for a lucky coincidence. Instead, they wait for the right opportunity.
Interesting article, but there have definitely been more than a few matches under Zidane, where our players simply sprayed crosses into the box, praying for some individual brilliance to occur, and not really attempting to score through any other means. It's mostly been in the Champions League that the players have been more selective of their crosses. If it wasn't for Morata and Ramos being absolutely clutch in the assumed less important league matches, Zidane's league statistics would've looked outright tragic for a top team. Instead, we miraculously managed to make a comeback during the latter half of the season, and actually went on to win the league one season under him

Re: Zinedine Zidane Appreciation Thread
Juventus gathering all the necessary ingredients to win the CL:
1. Deadly goalscorer and the most successful marksman in the history of the cl: check.
2. A 3- time-cl-winning coach: check.
All you need now is to buy Benzema for 80m to take credit for Ronaldo's goals while chasing butterflies in the final third.

If Juve signs Zidane then I’ll believe what sportsczy is saying is happening behind the scenes. He could have stayed as sporting director for us

As if my summer couldn't get any worse. Juve know what they need to win CL and they are snatching them from us. Meanwhile we are about to sign a galactico in a position that has been a glaring weakness of our team aka goalkeeper goodbye CL it was nice while it lasted....

Re: Zinedine Zidane Appreciation Thread
Well, I said before that if we go through the entire summer window without making major signings, I'll believe what I suspected before - That Zidane decided to resign because Florentino has no transfer plans and wants to keep the squad the way it is.
1 month and a half left. We'll see.

Signed a contract until 2022 with Real Madrid. I'm surprised about the length of the contract tbh.

Re: Zinedine Zidane Appreciation Thread
He wanted RM to keep Ronaldo, sell Bale and buy a few other players. Due to Perez' ego and how he and Ronaldo always clashed about everything he didn't listen. Sold Ronaldo and put all his eggs in the Bale basket, who is a player ZZ doesn't rate so he walked. Now that Perez realised he was wrong he probably promised ZZ a blank cheque. I hope it works out ZZ has literally put his reputation on the line for us

actually no, the pro madrid media didn't want mou, and i don't think the pro barcelona media wanted him either. mou's been basically looked at as a plague in the pro madrid based media. they didn't want him at all. i actually still admire him as a coach, and i wouldn't have gotten crazy if we signed him, but yeah the madrid based media and even those not based in spain have been looking at getting mourinho as if he where aids
