Black Mass - 2.5/5
I don't know after Out of the Furnace I think I can safely say I'm just not a fan of Scott Cooper's films. Or rather, I'm not a fan of his crime films seeing as I haven't seen Crazy Heart yet. And I think I would like that easily more. But the urge to watch it just isn't there.

Watched Everest... Absolutely pain to suffer through. One of the most boring films I've watched all year (2015 films). Should've been something you watch in Imax or a huge screen, since on a tv it just felt dragged out. Also wasting Jake Gyllenhaal Why was he even cast.

Pirloisjesus wrote:Watched Saving Private Ryan foolishly kept delaying as am not big fan of war movies but man is this the best made movie ever or what. Never felt the presence of director this strongly in movie since Godfather. This is the scale with which Directors should be evaluated imo.
now watch band of brothers, 10 part tv series produced by tom hanks, same style as saving private ryan just 10 hours long and superior

It's a great film.
Definitely have to watch it on Imax in theaters though. I loved it. I'm really liking Jason Clarke.

'Sicario' Director Denis Villeneuve: “It's Tough To Make A Movie About A Dark Subject Matter” – AwardsLine
Known for his dark, white-knuckle films made within the last five years, including Incendies, Enemy and Prisoners, Denis Villeneuve has secured a spot among A-list directors with his latest, Sicario, drawing Oscar-buzzy performances from a star-studded cast led by Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin and Benicio Del Toro. Up next for the French-Canadian are two high-profile sci-fi projects: the alien invasion film Story of Your Life starring Amy Adams, and the highly anticipated Blade Runner sequel that has original director Ridley Scott’s blessing. Here, Villeneuve shares his methodology in choosing projects, his fascination with characters exposed to profound violence, and the challenge of working against an audience’s expectations.

Denis Villeneuve is one of my favorite directors since I've been exposed to his recent work.
His collaboration with Roger Deakins so far has been phenomenal. Can't wait for Blade Runner sequel.

It was great due to it's inevitability (as messed up as that sounds). lol.
It's a true story too

The Revenant is so amazing!! Absolutely brilliant. Leo DiCaprio has to get an Oscar for best actor, has to!
Some amazing movies came out last year.

The Hateful Eight is a masterpiece. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
James Bond Spectre sucked imo. The weakest one in the Daniel Craig era.

I think he sums up Interstellar and Nolan as a director very well.

Came from Macbeth. Really liked it. Have high hopes for Assassin's Creed now. Also there's not a doubt in my mind anymore. Fassbender is the best actor working today. Guy is so captivating.
Also a shoutout to Paddy Considine as Banquo, totally unrecognizable. Movie is also gorgeous to look at. Amazing.

Re: The Movie House - Part 6
Fassbender the best? That's high praise...not something I'm entirely convinced of yet but he's certainly in my top 3. I have yet to see Steve Jobs or Macbeth, however, though I look forward to watching both.
Agreed on The Hateful Eight, brilliant movie. One of Tarantino's best.
Just got done with Sicario and wow. Denis Villeneuve is absolutely brilliant. Immediately going to check out more of his work, since I've only seen Prisoners and Sicario from him. Incredible director though.

Is there a twist at the end of The Hateful Eight?

Polytechnique, Incendies and Enemy.
They're not as Hollywood as Prisoners and Sicario, but all of them have gotten high praise as well.

It would kind of ruin it to tell you if there is or not imo
But it's in many ways more of a mystery movie than it is a western, so there are plenty of twists and turns.

The Visit is garbage. Should have known to avoid a M.Night Shamalayan movie like the plague. Hasn't made a good movie since Unbreakable(2000) and The Sixth Sense(1999).
8.1 on IMDB and has a good score on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. Positives far outweigh the negatives.
This movie is all about outstanding dialogue( always in QT movies), great acting and great set pieces. An enjoyable who-done it mystery movie.

Re: The Movie House - Part 6
So I watched Sicario last night and wasn't thrilled by it.
Some plot choice, the shift from one character to the other through the middle making Blunt's character look like a vulnerable pawn out of her league and lack of emotional and detailed character background made it one of Villeneuve's least best movies for me.
The cinematography is Oscar worthy, some of the shots and sequences are incredible and the acting is brilliant, but I can't get over the overall story and direction it chose.
3/5

Re: The Movie House - Part 6
Have to disagree with you there tbh
Just came back from The Revenant though and wow. Cinematography wise, the scenes they had...one of the most beautiful films I had ever seen. If I had gone to the theater and watched them work that camera in those landscapes for 2.5 hours I would have came out happy.
The acting is brilliant (what else do you expect from Hardy and DiCaprio at this point?) and the story compelling. Nothing crazy about it, just a simple revenge/survival movie. But the story didn't need anything extra, it was incredible on its own. I feel there is a lot more to get out of it than I have with more viewings, but I simply soaked up the beauty of the movie this first time. One of the best movies of the year for me, but i cannot say best.
Is 2015 one of the great years for film? This has probably been one of the most outstanding years for film that I can recall.
