Uruguay vs. Argentina is the oldest classic in the world, like 200 matches played, a lot of finals played (Of which Uruguay won 10 and Argentina 2 ), this classic has like 110 years old.

Re: Argentina going home...
Honestly, Argentina didn't do enough to win. As a Romanista, I worry about Burdisso's form. He's been suspect all tournament. And the fact that we're linked with his partner in crime, Gabi Milito, worries me even further as he was arguably worse than Nico. I think that's central to Argentina's problem. They are missing an elegant, hard-nose defender like a Lucio. Walter Samuel would've been that player for them I feel, but he's been sorely missed.
I was pretty impressed with Gago. He played the B2B role well and always looked to start attacks and push Argentina forward, which is what you want to see from a midfielder like him. Mascherano had a stinker obviously. Went about his job as he normally does, but what normally came off for him didn't in this match. His red card had NO effect on Argentina seeing as they were already struggling anyway.
Higuain showed why he's Argentina's best striker with not only his goal, but his movement as well. Caused Lugano and the rest of the Uruguay backline all sorts of problems with his deft runs OTB. Just needs to be more clinical I feel. Still missing far too many chances for a player of his calibre.
As for Messi, well he did what Batista wanted him to do: Create chances. No one should be ignoring that fact. He was always looking for a killer ball to send in or slip in an overlapping winger or full-back, which is what you need from your playmaker. He can hardly be blamed if those passes, which found their targets more often than not, failed to end up in the back of Uruguay's net. A lot of people seem to overlook the fact that it was his perfectly weighted ball that Higuain smacked in past Muslera and with the service Higgy got last nite, he should've put at least 2 more of those away.
That being said, the right team is out of the tournament imo. Defense wins games and Uruguay defended valiantly to keep Argentina at bay and take the game into PKs. Argentina only have themselves to blame for their loss.

Whenever you criticize c ronaldo, you get blamed for derailing the thread and bringing him up, even if you didn't bring him up.harhar11 wrote:Guiltybystander wrote:harhar11 wrote:Giggity5313 wrote:
Dude, hop off CR's D, is that all you guys like to do, bash madrid, mou, and CR7?
Last time I checked he helped portugal to a semi final finish in the world cup.
Ronaldo has been better then messi, though not by much I admit.
What's with it with you barca fans? FFS You guys act like 10 year olds at times.
I was just pointing out the hypocrisy of this forum, criticizing messi but not doing the same with cr7..
And last time I checked, messi help argentina to a copa america final, as cr7 did with portugal in the euro 04. And messi has only really had a big role in 1 WC so far, with a awful team and a awful manager. Both he and cr7 failed to play at their best, but only messi gets criticize for it. Even though he may not have scored, he was still argentinas best player at the WC, the same can't be said for cr7.
If pointing out the hypocrisy of the forum is acting like a 10 year old, then fine i'm a 10 year old
You can make a thread to criticize CR all you want if you have sensible arguments, but what does he have to do with a thread about Argentina's elimination?
I didn't brought up cr7 in this thread.. I don't remember who, but someone said that cr7 get's criticize unfairy for his perfomances for portugal I just said that he doesn't get any, atleast not in this forum compared to messi...

I will never forget this... go Greece....
At least he gets his country, who has had little to no NT success in its history, into a final and later rounds. What is Messi's excuse? Argentina has been an abject failure over and over again since he became part of it. Not saying it's all his fault... but he does disappear in games when things don't go his way.
Btw, CR7 was 19-20 years old in 2004 and helped carry the team. Was his breakout tournament.
I gotta defend Messi here. Argentina haven't trophies in what, 18 years? Messi and I were just 6 years old back then. Messi could've done better, yes, but it's the whole of Argentina who havent been able to in almost two decades now.

Re: Argentina going home...
Messi was the only one creating chances yesterday. Hell, the goal came from his assist. Tevez came on to do shit. 11 players were against 10 for like an hour and didn't do anything. Higgs wasted plenty of chances (he's not 100%, I understand). Mascherano got himself sent off. Batista has no idea how to form his team.
Plenty of people to put the blame on, but on Messi?

Tbf, Mascherano got sent off for a dive/faking injury by Suarez. Didn't even touch himSushi Master wrote:Messi was the only one creating chances yesterday. Hell, the goal came from his assist. Re: Argentina going home...
IIRC, he did touch him, just pretty lightly. I agree Suarez exagerrated and Burdisso or Milito should have gone out instead of him, but he came in from behind and that's a yellow by the book... so you can't really complain.
It's actually justice, in a way. Uruguay were playing better with 10 men and I was like WTF? Once Argentina went down to 10 the game sort of got even.

Some of his own medicine, I'm happy mascherano was sent off by someone else's diving and play acting, now he knows how it feels when he does it to others.

Re: Argentina going home...
Okay, Messi, all the arguments that have been mentioned ad infinitum against your stupid Masch video.
1) It was in the 88th minute, Argentina had a man up for almost an hour. They could and should have won then.
2) Suarez might have overreacted, but he was touched, so it counts
3) That Peres guy was insane and deserved red, but he got an unfair card due to Gago trickery.
4) Argentina was actually better after Mascherano came off.
5) Milito deserved a red card.
6) Uruguay dominated the second half, and most of extra time.
7) How many times have you laughed about Madrid fans for complaining about the Pepe red card? You are doing the EXACT SAME THING right now.
In conclusion: Uruguay deserved to win, and a red card for a very mediocre player in the 88th minute is not going to change that.

I'm gonna have to agree. If Pepe's was a direct red, then I can accept that. He was already booked, anyways.FilipeFerreira wrote:Lionel Messi wrote:Tbf, Mascherano got sent off for a dive/faking injury by Suarez. But really, look at his face. He barely gave a shit and he's supposed to be the captain. I'd expect more passion from him.
