He quite clearly is though and has been for 2 or 3 seasons.

He was shit before there's no denying that, not even Barca fans are going to deny that.

But he's consistently been great at them for a while now, he either makes the keeper make a great save, scores or goes close nearly every time.

But as usual with Messi everything he does is treated with meh, because he's so *bleep* good it's expected. The reality is though very few are more dangerous from a free kick than he is and i named the ones that probably are.

To respond to Valk's statement that Ronaldo is a better free kick taker than Messi:

What? No. I admit, his free kicks at Utd and 1st year Madrid were dangerous but for a long time now, his free kicks only give the stewards work as they have to retrieve the ball that end up in the stands.

Messi isn't exactly Beckham or Rivellino but he certainly can take a free kick better than Ronaldo nowadays. Though if I have to be fair, I don't rate either player's set piece ability all that high.

Suarez's ratio of scoring to number of takes is great. At Liverpool he was deadly from them. At Barca, Messi and Nerman have barely let him take any.

It's because his penalties last season are downright awful to the point that if he even used his right foot to take a free kick, he would still be better at it than his penalty taking.

If I were to place a bet, I'd say that Neymar and Suarez would have scored more goals from 10 attempts than Messi. They are more effective, need less attempts to score, from what I have seen.

I don't have stats to back up my claims but Suarez must have scored like 3 FKs from the very few attempts he gets (and by very few I mean VERY few).

And I'm saying this as a Messi fanboi.

They scored from few attempts because they took it from perfect position for them. If its a bad position for neymar or suarez they will not take it. If they take it then attempt ratio will get worse. Messi takes it from any position so bad ratio is expected
