Messi free kick reality
i don't wanna be a hater, nor a whiner, i praised his goals all the times, but NEUTRAL fans (non barca/ madrid) please judge this action and tell me if that's worthy of being called cheating or not?

Re: Messi free kick reality
My two cents.
I wouldn't allow that. Moving it a little bit is ok but that much isn't right.
That being said, If you're going to crack down on that you need to make sure all free kicks are taken from the exact location. I saw one free kick taken against us this weekend where the marks where the guy fell over were visable, yet he took the free kick about 5-10m from that spot.
Either do that spray thing in the MLS or not bother.
BTW, was he moving it back because of the wall? if he was, the wall shouldn't have been moving forward and both are as bad as each other.

Re: Messi free kick reality
I'm sure players move it a little bit all time, however that seems a bit too much.
Is there actually a distance the ball can be moved?

Re: Messi free kick reality
Looked like he was moving it to the side IMO.
At least he didn't try moving it 5 yards forward like everyone does (me included lol), but a ref can't have his eyes on that all the time, especially with the wall trying to inch as far forward as possible. I think implementing invisible spray or whatever it is would be a best case scenario for all involved.

He was moving it to the side so he'd have a better angle to beat the wall

Re: Messi free kick reality
Moved to the side. If there is no advantage to the attacking team then by all means continue on... however if there is significant advantage then the referee should deal with the issue. Saying that the referee cannot always have his eye on the ball. One of the lineman may see it though most players get away with it. Should they get away with it? No. Moved sideways imo though my opinion probably won't count as the author only wants Non Barca or Madrid fans commenting.

Re: Messi free kick reality
Moving it to the side most certainly does count. It's not as bad as pushing it forwards x amount of meters, but why do you think Messi moved it so much to the side? Gives him an advantage.
Refs need that referee spray, will help immensely IMO.

Re: Messi free kick reality
yeah , it's 50/50 for me, i think the bend and the correct power put on the shot was in itself a work of art, but just wondered how much such "sideways" movement would have helped, nothing taken away from Messi ofc...

Indeed. There is still advantage though nothing or no one can take it with the perfection of that hit...

There's no good reason for not implementing spray sport-wide.

Re: Messi free kick reality
Not only that.sometimes players literally run 20 yards ahead of where the ball went out of bounds and throw it in there to gain an advantage and no one says anything.
It's just hilarious this poster uses this scenario when this happens in almost every single game.
What a Joke.
And BTW the reason they don't use the spray is because Europe didn't come up with the idea and there too damn stubborn to admit the South Americans made a really good change for the betterment of the game.
Had a European league been the first to implement it every league in Europe would use the spray.

Re: Messi free kick reality
If he moved it back he did basically the same thing the wall does which is move up when the Ref is not looking, if both do it fair game

I was thinking the exact same thing when I saw this.
Anyway it's not a "huge" deal but the fact that Messi waited till the ref wasn't looking to move the ball gives you the impression that it was wrong

Re: Messi free kick reality
oh ffs, really?! its getting to this stage now is it? run out of topics of diving, fouling, theatrics, ref-crowding, uefalona and are now starting with one on messi cheating by moving the ball in a dead ball situation?! this is actually ridiculous, EVERY player does this at some stage, or something similiar, and if you're not aware of that then you really have never played or watched enough games!!

I watched the match again a few hours ago and he actually moved twice to the side and twice backwards.Could be an advantage or a disadvantage.

This!!!!
If they (RM players) thought it is such a wrong thing, i doubt they would be silenced when it happened. It is just a Madrid based media making noise about it as they want CR7 to win Balon D'Or, so they are digging in for whatever obscure reason to discredit Messi.

Yeah him moving the ball where he likes is a disadvantage
The spray does work just wastes a lot of time at first, but now it's pretty smooth.

Re: Messi free kick reality
If thats cheating the entire real madrid player who were in the wall are cheaters as well seeing as they moved the wall closer to messi than its allowed before that and after the ref told them to get back in the same place...
