I don't care. im just giving my opinion in the thread. and its all good saying money don't matter. but how much you pay for a player and how much you pay him can have a knock on affect in the future. clubs will say you payed x amount for this player we want this much for our player. or player will say you pay ramos 300k per week I want x amount.

30mil for a player and 300k per week is a big deal for any club mate. anyway. at least they will be getting a top player.

I know but the team success thing doesn't really apply to Valdes as the worst they got they better he got Laughing

His best season was his last season where he carried them defensively making one on one save again and again... They were 6 points clear in La Liga when he got injured and quite frankly looked in a good place in the CL.

Then it all fell apart, I understand what you are getting at but it doesn’t really apply to Valdes considering his best season was the season when everybody claimed they were the worst Barca in a decade.

My sentiments exactly. Woodward is trying to do some sort of metaphorical dick contest in the transfer market. Di Maria should never have been signed if we were getting van Gaal as a manager. baffling stuff.

It seems like the recent years have made Utd develop a serious inferiority complex that they're trying to overcompensate by indiscriminate big name spending.

Woody especially seems hellbent on proving those wrong who accused him of 'not being able to deliver' big signings after that first Moyes summer.

The fact they're losing De Gea, their bestest player and top 3 world class goalie, to Real, has stoked that complex so they need to save face by taking a big name player away from Real (aka overpaying for another Real player that can't get his wage demands met by Real).

Thing is, with van Gaal and his, let's call it, idiosyncracies we might very well see Rojo locked on the LCB spot and Ramos vs Smalling for the other.
So either another record transfer on the bench, or, even more stupid, Smalling on the bench, the one defender they have who might be genuinely exciting if he ggets consistency AND who could be a figure of identity for a team mostly made up of mercenaries.

However, maybe van Gaal will play Ramos as right back? Maybe that's not such a bad idea? hmm
