Re: Goodbye Xavi
I think its a great thing that the CL final will feature the absolute best midfielders in the last 10 or so years facing each other.
While I always preferred Pirlo over Xavi, I find it ridiculous that someone can appreciate one without equally appreciating the other.
Xavi is leaving as one of the pillars of the greatest Barca of all time, and simply cannot leave on a higher note.

There was a game this year where he was hounded by 3 players to the point they was basically hanging off him and he still managed to twist and turn around them and break through and make a pass.
Legend gets thrown around too often but for him it's more than justified.
Not just that, as you said, Xavi hasn't played that much this season but his role as a captain was HUUUUGELy important this season. Apparently it was he who calmed everyone down after the mini-crisis that erupted after the sociedad game, and helped improve Messi's and Enrique's relationship and thanks to that(but not just that) Barca is close to winning a treble..

Yes there is.
They are called Xavi, Pirlo, Ineista, Seedorf, among others. Personally, I see Pirlo and Xavi at the top of midfielders in the last 10 years.

You can see them as the best but they're not absolute, there are others at the same level or even superior for a lot of people like Gerrard, Lampard, Ballack, Kaká, Sneijder, Riquelme...

Xavi is def better than all of those come on. Riquelme and Sneijder? That's disrespectful at the least.

Xavi
This will be us next season
Gerrard, Lampard, Ballack better then or as good as Xavi? Kaká, Sneijder, Riquelme were great, but they just weren't on top for as long.

You're being the disrespectful one here.
Sneijder deserved the ballon d'oro in 2010 for a lot if not the majority of people, carried Holland to the final of a WC, best player in a CL Champions side (Milito for some, i know). Struggled a lot in his career due to bad teams and later with too much partying.
Riquelme you will probably play down his time with Boca, i don't even care though, he was one the most talented CAM's ever.
Xavi and Pirlo were not really big deals until late in their careers, Xavi was suited for the particular style of Pep's Barcelona and was great because of that. Pirlo while being great never really stood out as the absolute star of Milan and Italy until his Juve's days, if not Milan would not let him go in the first place. I think people overrated them a bit these days.

In a team that does not play tiki taka, they're better actually. Yeah, consistency x peak is a good debate.

Yeah, not going to bother with this. Xavi has skinned us every year for a decade. Sneijder had one great year. Riquelme was talented but never amounted to what he could've been, talent means shit.

Great article (from last year)
Xavi has made an imprint on more high-end teams than Barcelona

Yes they are, Xavi would not even be at the same bracket as them before 2008 (Xavi was 28 already).

Rendered our midfield team useless everytime we faced him
Destroyed us that game, (before Jibers/jiopsi points out Nesta did nothing in that video, Aquilani was marking him)

Which proves my point that he became great in a team that plays to his strenghts, otherwise he is "just" a very good footballer and not better than the mentioned names.

Just because he didn't get the hype as the English give to players in there league doesn't mean he was nothing before 2008 Considering Milan under Carlo and Bayern both wanted him.
By that logic Sterling > Hames, where was Hames at the age of 21?

Only played 420 games for Barca before the 08/09 season, winning only 3 league titles and one CL Basically nonexistent before 2008

He was so good that the team was made to play to his strengths, like every other great player to ever exist.
Anyway i'm lost here, apparently Messi needed Xavi to do anything now and it's Xavi who is nothing without " tiki taka" which is a meaningless buzzword created by the media for casual novices to understand the game.
Should stop while your ahead before you look more stupid than you already do.

English hype? wtf? I watched them at the time, i'm not basing this in hype. And what's the problem with Milan or Bayern wanting him? I did not say he was a scrub before his glory days.

He was unlucky, went to a shitty Real Madrid and got sold when things would start to improve because he was Calderon's purchase. Arrives at Mourinho's Inter, great team, perfect season, probably deserved balon d'oro, Mourinho leaves and he is in a shitty team again for another 3 years. Probably lost the motivation and choose to spend the rest of his career in a pool of Turkish money.
